In exchange for a legit top 4 D

But he blew us away by getting drunk Sakic to retain salary and toss in a pick and a legit #3 C the Leafs needed to replace Kadri

This was a masterful trade

Yes. Matthews needs more TOI bad. He's been the best NHL scorer 5 on 5 since he entered the NHL but doesn't crack top 80 in TOI.

I also think Dermott was held back too much in his 2nd season.

Anybody who said an offer sheet would never happen should look at Aho. I'm sure Kapanen would have received one had he hit July 1st. Dubas has navigated this well by not agreeing to terms with Marner.
