Barrie says this is where he wants to be, he'll re-sign. Kerfoot scored two points less than Kadri and is younger - he's arbitration eligible and will probably get $3 to $3.3 Million in arbitration, or Leafs can bridge him for a couple of years. This is a fantastic trade by Dubas. No downside, Kadri had to go after fuking the Leafs 2 years in a row in the playoffs.

Yeah and considering we had to un(frank) Lou's Zaitsev deal first before we could do anything is a testament to Dubas' skill here as a GM. All the while with Paul (frank)ing Marner and Company trying their best to set the Leafs back half a decade in competitiveness.

If anything, the Aho offer sheet proves that Marner isn't worth than 9.5M.

Man we grabbed a lot of cheap D options today: Harpur, Gravel, Kivihalme

That could go either way.

Yes, it shows maybe the offers out there aren't that high.

But also, when Carolina matches in 7 days (beautiful move to screw over Montreal for the first week of the UFA period too), it'll tell teams that if they want an offer sheet to go unmatched, they're going to have to up their bids.

Let's hope it ends up helping the Leafs sign Marner though.

I am also happy with everything that happened, Dubas earned his pay today.

Probably not.

But it'd be nice to get an 8 year deal done, even if it costs more per year, rather than have him become a UFA quicker.

Don't need to make the same mistake they made with Matthews.

Barrie can score points but his defensive work isn't admirable. It's an upgraded rental of Gardiner.

And Ceci, if they even keep him, sucks as hard as Zaitsev does defensively, maybe even worse.

- JohnFergusonJr

Ceci sucks but you question if the leafs can keep him?

does you mind go in the direction the wind blows?

I didn't question their ability to keep Ceci, I questioned their willingness to keep Ceci.

no you didn't
and for them to be willing to keep him he would have to have a good season, which is a win for the leafs.

Pha9 could probably be had for a milly...would you? My only fear would be Babs wanting to play him more than 15 min a game. As a 3rd or 4th pair Id be tempted to open this pandoras box on a one year deal and keeps Marincin as a seat warmer.

Already enough guys that can't play D on this team.

Phaneuf never was good and will continue being not good.

At 7 Million I would agree with your statement, but for one million and paired correctly with limited ice I dunno.

Who's left that "can't play D"?

Gardiner, Zaitsev and Hainsey, everyone's favourite whipping boys are all gone. What exactly did you realistically want him to do better today? It's so (frank)ing amazingly easy to just be a complete downer poop bucket, but if you don't really have anything to say other than to gripe about nothing, maybe we should trade you to the Sens thread for a late round alt account.

Was never a Gardiner fan and glad he is moving on. Zaitsevs contract was horrible. I didnt mind Hainsey that much, just that Babs used him more than he should have or in the wrong situations.

this D core is vastly different now. Still think we need to add one more cheap piece to it.

Crazy tho, sit back and look at his era here and the way this team was structured back then and fast forward to todays date looking at our top 4 defense and our top 6 forwards.... we have come a long way...

Anyone suggesting a Marner trade, I command Chiarelli to leave your body!

- Zezel

Nice one. But yeah, I really hope Marner stays a Leaf, and I'm pretty confident he will. Despite all the noise his agent and dad are making, I think both him and his annoying father want him to stay a Leaf. So they'll need to make a deal Dubas is willing to agree to.

Lilybust or Borgman will do.
