Well calculated offer sheet for sure. Both teams will be competing for a wild card spot IMO and from the Habs perspective why not (frank) the team you are competing with if you can. - winsix
I said it to some of my Habs fan friends already, but if Canes let Aho walk for the three picks which will be mid-round at the very best with Aho in the picture for the Habs, they are a complete joke. |

I don't think a trade will happen if they match.
KK is not going anywhere.
For what it's worth, even if it fails, I do appreciate the balls of Bergevin of doing it.
And there are others RFA's if needed. OFFER SHEET THEM ALL BERGY! - Scabeh
But is it ballsy?
Its kinda half assed.
Of he really wanted aho, would you not offer more, make it harder on the canes and be willing to entice them not to match.
The canes gm laughed at bergy. Said he did his work for him and that the offer was lower than expected.
The 21m owed over the next 12 months will be hard for the canes to absorb, but i dont think irs enough tp make them walk away

According to Bergevin, adding more money wouldn't have made a difference in the Canes possibility to match.
Only the amount of money in the first year (which they maxed out) was a factor.
They must have had some information that it has a chance to work. Otherwise they wouldn't have bothered. |

Panarin could be bad.
4 years into it, it wont look good. - Fakepartofme
Panarin is a beast, overpaid - maybe, but Rangers add a point a game player to a core of young talented players. Adding Trouba and Panarin without taking much away are solid moves. |

Its actually more, 21 million is what they brought in last season including two rounds of playoffs. Without Aho, hard to see them make the playoffs. Habs couldn't have (frank)ed them more.

Canes are a broke franchise.
I really hope Montreal gets Aho - because it will make other GMs look at offersheets as an option going forward.
Time for the teams that bring revenue to take advantage to some of these non-marke teams. (I thought the comment by Canes GM was stupid - Mtl / Toronto / some other teams basically keeping their heads up in this league) |

Canes are Owned by Tom Dundon - he's not broke, best owner franchise has ever had for sure.

I know you've all been waiting for my opinion on the trade (let me have this one Bixll), so here it is:
I like this trade for the Leafs.
In Barrie, they get a good offensive defenseman that can easily replace Gardiner. Yes he's signed only for a year but depending on the results, that could not matter. And the Leafs could always resign him if needed.
Losing Kadri hurts, he's an effective player (I personally hate him) and gave you guys alot of depth at centre. At the same time, his repeated idiotic actions ended up hurting the team way more and he will not be missed in the playoffs (can anyone do worse than not playing?).
Kerfoot being included in the trade is crazy. He's a good young player that could easily have a career year playing with some talented players next year.
On the Avs side, they lose Barrie but he'll be replaced by Makar and they really needed that 2nd line centre. Kadri will look good over there but don't look back fellas.
Overall a solid trade by Dubas.
Cheers! Aho! - Scabeh

Agree with you, he's also not a softie, black belt. Rangers overpaid but Panarin turned down more money from the Islanders. Then Lou had to swallow hard and go back to sign Lee. (frank) the Islanders.

Aho gets an offer sheet for what, 8.45?
Who would you rather have? Aho at 8.5 vs Marner at 11? With the cap space in mind, because otherwise of course you would rather have Marner if cap isn’t an issue.
I would have to take Aho here. Imagine what Dubas can do with the extra $2.5 M! I mean Aho doesn’t get to play with JT and his numbers are very respectable?
Marner camp needs to be realistic here. Sure MM might be better but is he 2.5M per year better? Come on. |

I think carolina matches but they wait till the last hour so mtl can’t offer sheet any one else. Kind of like a screw you for trying to take our player.
