I think carolina matches but they wait till the last hour so mtl can’t offer sheet any one else. Kind of like a screw you for trying to take our player. - bryant
Oh for sure, they're gonna wait until the last minute to announce anything.
By then, Habs will have missed the opportunity of overpaying for Jake Gardiner.

He's waiting for Aho to sign to follow him.
Also, I like the fact the offer sheet isn't Marner. Enough of the media discussing it ONLY being Marner.
Aho made way more sense for a team to do it. |

What kid, when walking at the zoo turns to their parent and says "bye" and begins walking the other direction with all the confidence in the world?! He has some nerve. |

Aho always made a lot more sense. He's a C playing for a team losing millions. |

Lou has tied-up 18.5 million to Nelson, Lee and Eberle. Anyone want him back instead of Dubas? LOL |

Aho gets an offer sheet for what, 8.45?
Who would you rather have? Aho at 8.5 vs Marner at 11? With the cap space in mind, because otherwise of course you would rather have Marner if cap isn’t an issue.
I would have to take Aho here. Imagine what Dubas can do with the extra $2.5 M! I mean Aho doesn’t get to play with JT and his numbers are very respectable?
Marner camp needs to be realistic here. Sure MM might be better but is he 2.5M per year better? Come on. - gamerdoc
Marner's side is hurting right now with that offersheet. |

Spent the evening last night at Bar Wellington downtown, just so happened to be sitting across from Friedman, CJ and Shawn Mackenzie. Boys put in a shift, came right after the TV coverage ended and were still there when I left at 10.
It was pretty fun, me and my buddies got to chatting with them, they told us about Kadri moving about 10 min before the tweets hit, said there was a potential with CAL for Brodie but we took the COL deal instead... It was basically Twitter in real life.
CJ was saying GMs around the league were very impressed with us snagging Barrie; was very sought after by a bunch of clubs.
Also said Kerfoot was the sneaky steal of the trade, will give us 80% of what Kadri does, and maybe more. 4 years younger too. |

I expect them to match, even if there's always that small chance the Habs strategy of front loading that contract works...
I can't say how it'll impact other RFAs.... it could drop their value a little but Aho's contract sends him right to being a UFA too. It's not ideal. Hence why Carolina didn't offer him something similar in the first place.
Oh and that whole "21M in the first year" thing. - Scabeh
Only problem is the Canes may wait the full 7 days, allowing all the other RFA/UFA's to get signed and then match, leaving the Habs empty handed.
edit: looks like I'm a little late. |

I wonder if Kadri had any right to nix the trade to CAL

Don't worry about Lou. That's the equivalent of creeping your ex on Facebook 5 years later and taking public delight that she's gained 10 pounds.
Lou did some good work for us here. The Zaitsev and Marleau deals were his blemishes and his penchant for trading 2nd rd picks for 4th line centres.
The Kadri and Rielly deals were great. The Andersen deal was pretty good in hindsight.
I don't think we need to tarnish what Lou did for us here by looking at what he's doing elsewhere. That chapter is written. |

I wasn't sure if I liked the trade or not, until I saw that Spatso had an aneurysm.
Now I know it was a good trade. |

I had guessed that the deal with Calgary was probably similarly structured. Probably included Bennett (unsigned UFA C who could do the #3C role). I think Kadri had a 10-team NTC, and Calgary was on it, so he nixed the deal.

Suddenly $10M x 8 doesn’t look so bad, eh Mitch? - As_I_See_It
marner's agent over-played his hand.
the minimal 2.5% increase in the salary cap was a hit to their negotiating position. back in December bettman was talking about +83m.
now aho setting the market has really (frank)ed them. but this happens to david ferris clients 100% of the time.
p.marner will drag this out. him and his small penis are jealous of mcdavid's contract/going 1st overall/countless other things over the last 10 year.s he's dreaming thinking mitch deserves mcdavid money. they'll cave by october.
next dreger dropped is marner is going to spend the summer in europe. |
