marner's agent over-played his hand.
the minimal 2.5% increase in the salary cap was a hit to their negotiating position. back in December bettman was talking about +83m.
now aho setting the market has really (frank)ed them. but this happens to david ferris clients 100% of the time.
p.marner will drag this out. him and his small penis are jealous of mcdavid's contract/going 1st overall/countless other things over the last 10 year.s he's dreaming thinking mitch deserves mcdavid money. they'll cave by october.
next dreger dropped is marner is going to spend the summer in europe. - Tumbleweed
I would suggest to Marner to sign before Rantanen or Point does, because neither will get 10+ per. And both have better stats overall the past 2 years. |

I wasn't sure if I liked the trade or not, until I saw that Spatso had an aneurysm.
Now I know it was a good trade. - Atomic Wedgie
Leafs needed to keep Kadri because their other players disappeared come playoff time.

Marner actually has slightly better point totals than Point. |

I think Kadri is a good player.
I think he has a fantastic contract - he's underpaid.
He had to go.
Management had to send a message that you frank up like that TWICE, you are gone.
I'm totally at peace with this trade. |

1) Bob McKenzieVerified account @TSNBobMcKenzie
DET's standing offer on a two-year deal for AA has had an AAV of $1.9M
2) AA declines, moves to Switzerland and threatens to sign with a KHL team for $2.5M
3) AA signs for 1-year $1.387M (minus~$150k for missing 20 days of the season)
David Ferris/josh andersson
1) Ferris states publicly that josh Anderson is offered a low-ball 3-year less than $1.9M/year deal
2) Anderson declines and misses all of training camp. Threatens to sign in Switzerland (where salaries generally max out at $500K).
3) Anderson signs for 3 years @ 1.85M/year right before the season.
David Ferris/tobias reider
1) Ferris states publicly he wants $2.5M/year for 2 years for Reider and the coyotes are offering $2.2M.
2) Reider declines the coyotes offer and misses all of training camp. Ferris says publicly that he is mulling over a couple of KHL offers.
3) Reider signs right before training camp for $2.25M.
4) Coyotes have the last laugh – the only GM willing to work with Ferris is Chiarelli. Rieder signs with edmonton - lolz.
Ferris/Bennett
1) September 5, 2017
Darren Dreger:
Still a sizable gap in contract talks between the Flames and Sam Bennett. Possibility Bennett heads overseas until a deal in Calgary is done
2) September 7, 2017
Bennett signs for 2 years, 1.95M/year

Man does Nashville know how to manage their cap. Still have 5 million in space today with guys coming off the books next year to be able to sign Josi. They can even trade Turris.
It looks like it was Subban for Duchene. How many of you do that deal? |

I think Colorado got a good player.
I am ok with the trade because they get the #3C back closer to the age of the rest of the core. Kerfoot should sign for somewhere around Kapanen/Johnsson money.
What I like best is just the fact that Dubas went about his business without over-considering the Marner camp. I am sure the Marner camp would rather that he was handcuffed by the stand-off.
He isn't holding back 13M or something stupid to match an offer. He is holding back enough to sign Marner to a very good, but not ridiculous, contract. I like the business as usual attitude and the message it sent.

Issue is their forward group is very weak and have an aging goalie. They have upgrades to make. |

Thanks for this. This guy seems to have the same move every single time.
The only issue here is that these aren't players like Marner. They are far inferior so we will see. Good to know the agent is just a Richard.

Sure Rinne is aging but he is still good enough for this year and next. Saros could be the next guy in line or they get someone else, like Lehner after this year if need be. (If he proves out).
They may need upgrades at forward but they have the cap flexibility to do so. It's good management. |

If this drags out and Marner never gets more than the most recent offer, I would love to see him fire his agent.
Agents need to be held accountable when they (frank) up, just like everyone else.

Are you crazy? Marner is going to light up the Swiss League. Some guy named Dominik Kubalik put up 57 points in 50 games and led the league. They're going to end up renaming everything after him, like Mitcherland, the Mitch Army Knife. Mitch Cheese. Mitch Watch. |

Point does play center and scored 40 last year though I believe. Either way these guys should all come in around one another. |

The only thing that bothers me is Barrie is a one year rental. If he had even 2 years remaining I would call it a great trade but I don’t think Leafs can afford him after this year. |

Assuming Dundon didn't magically lose all of his money, I'd say so.
Aho and Teravainen locked up for under $14 million combined for the next 5 years? That's a win. |
