In terms of actual money, it should have gone:

Rantanen
Aho
Point
Marner
Tkachuk

- BINGO!

Kadri was a luxury. He's a very good #2 (literally and figuratively). His numbers were dropping bc Tavares and Matthews were taking those quality offensive minutes. Tavares also was getting big defensive assignments. I love Kadri and I think he'll be great behind MacKinnon but it was a great "asset management" trade by Dubas.

I think the 3rd line looks like Johnsson-Kerfoot-Spezza (maybe).

- The Law

Why is everyone moving Kapanen to the left side? I still see him being the 3rd line right winger.

There's a nice debate in there. If you listen to the Leaf trolls Marner should be at the top of the payday list. I think there's a good argument for all 4 of those top 4 guys. Points are sexy so I think MM and Rantanen get top slot.
- The Law

I go higher with Aho because he doesn't have anywhere close to the supporting cast of the others, and he's a C.

But yeah.

I guess it comes down to how much more you value Marner's production vs the two way play of some of the others.

what defense did we have last year?
- Tumbleweed

Rielly-Hainsey
Gardiner-Zaitsev

...

Rielly-Barrie
Muzzin-Ceci

Even if Ceci is a poopshow that's a massive improvement.

Big year for Dermott to prove he can work his way into top 4 minutes.

Kadri will be 29 soon. I think now was the time to strike and move him. There were some subtle signs he was dropping a bit last year.(And I don't mean stats, he looked a little slower).

'member when we had Glimour, Sundin, Muller?

Good times.

Truth be told Babcock doesn't defer to me BUT for me ...it's time to go balls in.

Kap-Mat-Nyl and Hym-Tav-Mar should get 40-45 minutes per night (at least when poop gets real). With Tavares getting the tougher assignments the Matthews line should be feasting all year.

Also, I think Spezza gets 3rd line duties and plays on the right. That being said flip Johnsson and Kapanen if the fit is better.

- Tumbleweed

swapped gardiner for gardiner 2.0 in barrie and added ottawa's favorite defenseman cody ceci, so much improvement......lost the only sandpaper the lineup had in kadri and brown.

Don't know much about Shore but maybe he slides onto the 4th line wing but plays centre on the PK?

They've got about 14 million to sign Marner, Kerfoot and maybe grab a better back up tender. They could/should maybe throw some $$ at a better 4th line centre too.

- The Law

(frank) it. squeeze marner for 6.5 x2.

bring back gards @ 4.5M for 1 year and lets (frank)ing go balls out for it this year.

If nothing else Kerfoot is a 4 yr Harvard grad. I love Kadri but superior brains were not his forte.

I haven't seen a minute of Kerfoot play (nor Spezza in the past 5 years) but my Avs buddy says he's a tenacious small skilled guy with tonnes of hockey smarts. Reads like a good (but small) 3rd line centre. I like the fit and Babcock has had some success with those types.

Question for ya, Bingsie:

What were you expecting the 'canes' offer to Aho was going to be?

Was it going to be higher than $8.5 million AAV? Lower?

i'm guessing dermott plays on the right. babs probably mixes it until he finds the combo that works best.
