Marner 11, Ceci 4.5, Kerfoot 3.5. Money is gone. There is no top paring d coming without a trade.

They were always going to find a way to keep Marner, the question is did they improve the team?

- aminnes

Barrie will be just fine for the Leafs and they will have cap space the following offseason....considering Dubas back was against the wall for cap space it appears he managed just fine

It's like you really hate Cody Ceci.

Other than the fact that every single metric I've seen shows that he absolutely terrible, I don't know why you don't like him.

- Monkeypunk

I'm sure most of the players on Ottawa last season had great metrics and stats, after all they were one of the best teams in history weren't they?

Barrie is a top pairing D.

He has played in the top pair and has flourished. Dubas has a fantastic job so far this offseason and anyone who is saying otherwise is just starting poop.

You realize his metrics are worse defensively than Gardner right?

I'm not saying he did a fantastic job. Serious? I'm not saying he did a poor job either.

I'm glad it happened.

It should happen more often.

His offer sheet was pointless IMO.

It just created problems for him in the future...There are some executives and mangers that aren't happy about this..and obviously some just don't give two poops.

But it was a pointless offer sheet.

What metrics are you reading?

Because that is the opposite of what I am reading.

Ceci has far better metrics than Z in certain areas too....its all on how you read them.

We can argue the semantics till the cows come home. Point was they don;t have cap space to bring in another defensemen. Especially a top paring defensemen.

Barrie is in the 44th percentile defensively while Gardiner is in the 56th. According to the Leafs owners sports web site.

He's not a championship level top pairing defensemen. Where are getting this? And yes, we all wanted a defensemen, what was unnecessary was bringing in another offensemen. Have too many of those already.

I like the trade in principle. I just don't like it if this is it, because if it is, the Leafs actually found a way to be even worse in their own next season.

It's almost as if graphs and numbers could be interpreted to validate any point of view if you take the right ones!

I just want leafs to have a bit of money come trade deadline. Have some team pay 70 percent of the contract and leafs would be able to afford them for the playoff push.
They can get by with the d core as is till then.

Read the thread. I was responding to someone who thought they had cap space to sign another guy, which they don't.

Or if your big into kidding yourself. Barrie is so amazing and a legit top pairing defensemen he was traded for a second line centre and the Avs had to eat half his salary.

I mean that's normal right. Guys trade top paring d men and eat half their salaries for 2nd line centres all he time.
