Hopefully (if he’s playing well ) we can resign Barrie in the new year and not have to wait until July 1. It will be a little bit of a let down if he leaves after this season. - Garnie

so... serious questions....
1) which teams are going to be ones with GMs on the hot seat going into the season - aside from Kekäläinen?
2) which team(s) will have the greatest need for scoring?
I'm trying to come up with the most logical locations to which to trade Nylander ... assuming he's lighting it up in the first 1/4 of the season? - BorjeFan4Ever
I doubt he gets traded unless it’s Nashville. JMO

Last 3 years are negative on the analytics side, but hopefully playing with Muzzin that will straighten him out. - Garnie
I hope so.
Worst case scenario, as said, is move him to the 3rd pairing, and shelter him from tougher competition. |

They can play out the season and see what shapes out. In February they re-assess and look to add a veteran D if they need it. Muzzin, Rielly and Barrie all are proven top-4 guys so maybe one more is needed. Maybe Dermott takes that next step or Ceci finds some kind of enlightenment (doubtful) but the D is better off then it was in October of last year. - The Law
There are so many paths here.
I think signing Barrie should be priority number 1....you just can't replace top pairing talent.
But what if Dermott plays lights out? Cranky Leaf fans will first say they are screwed because now they can't sign both Muzzin/Barrie...but if Dermott plays lights out he deserves the money but also deserves the 2LHD spot...Muzzin is not really needed.
If he plays meh and is still a 3rd pairing D he is tradable or can just sign for cheap.
Don't forget about Liljregen and Sandin too. |

oh
Trade for Alex Nylander, then trick Murray into thinking it’s the good one. |

I like it. Shouldn't cost more than a few late round picks to get him. |

I'm thinking Columbus will have to do something... given what they lost in FreeAgency

It always amazes me when people miss penalty kicks in soccer.
On top of not scoring, it probably just killed all momentum that England had. |

I'm sure that if Dermott is playing even only reasonably well come January - that Dreger will start talking about all the offer sheets Dermott is going to get.

Holding out for Kotkaniemi.
Then they'll get a bunch of local media to carry water for them and write weird stories about how Kotkaniemi always dreamed of playing for the Hurricanes and how DARE a pathetic and probably poor man like Geoff Molson stand in the way of the mighty Hurricanes! |

This may not be worth worrying about.
Next summer will probably see a lockout.
Based upon the two previous CBA impasses, we may see "get out of jail free" compliance buyouts (players love 'em, owners love 'em, so no arguments), and possibly even a rollback of salaries (it happened before).
So a lot of unknowns. |

Another lockout? Gary will go through a 4th, and yet still remain the commish. Only in the hockey world. |

need to set it up by clogging up their cap space. offer sheet guys this year and next for deals they have to match.
e.g. hudon for $2M (no compensation); lehtkonen for $4M (2nd rounder).
bergevin will have no idea what is happening. |

i wouldn't be surprised. They'll come up with some formula to reduce escrow; but jam this on the players. |

In principle, deal had to be made, and I don't mind it. But if they don't do more to bring in more defensive help it will have been pointless.
Kerfoot was a good pickup as well. - aminnes
They now have two Reillys with Muzzin and Dermott. How much more do you want? |
