Give Roeper a break. At the time Paul Dreger had begun talking about Marner being offer sheeted. Roeper needed an outlet. Or multiple outlets.

Why can't he just resolve his anger like a normal person?

I think some read too much James Tanner

Player has a 52% Corsi and all of a sudden that means he never has to play in his own end of the rink.

You need a guy who plays safe and a guy who can wheel on each pair I think.

Even watching Hainsey, he was usually in his box around the net, then you watch a guy like Borgman or Marincin even Dermott sometimes, chasing the puck and leaving their guy wide open.

Yup. Careful now, you might get 'blasted' by all the experts in here.

Worse defensively, absolutely.

There’s a reason some of these posters have had other people make accounts using their name 🤣😂🤣

For sure. But how dare I suggest they need a solid stay at home defensemen. Blasphemy!

Name me 5 solid stay at home defensemen.

And they mention all the forwards and the help they will give. Meanwhile the club traded away 2 of their best defensive forwards. Like WTF do they think is going to happen next year? Spezza will save the day in the d zone? FFS be realistic.

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me who is playing defence on the PK. The d is sooooo much better.

Most of those aren't even stay at home defensemen. They're all mobile puck movers, which is how you play defense nowadays.

Why are you guys defining stay at home as unable to skate or make a pass? GOOD stay at home defensemen can skate and make a pass. poopTY stay at home defensemen cannot. They all hit, they all block shots, they all are tough in front of the net. Qualities the Leafs lack, desperately.

Dubas commented on the old school defensive defensemen's style of "backing in and then running guys" vs. mobile modern D that gap up and challenge early and how they're looking for that from Barrie (and Rielly, Muzzin to an extent too).

I think with Barrie, we're getting a gaff-free version of Gardiner essentially, and one with better offensive tools like his shot.

Nah, Leafs are just going to try and outscore everybody.

Worked great for Tampa Bay last year.

I don't believe it was the hit on Jake DeBrusk that got Kadri out of Toronto, it was his skill and the position he plays that was what Colorado needed to give them secondary scoring and after they struck out on Panaren, Kadri was their best option and Barrie was not needed so much with the up and coming young defense corps.

Because you're just listing good defensemen; we have some good defensemen too.

Is our top 4 perfect? No, but it's more balanced than it was last year.
