In last 2 years, Simmonds ranks 301 out of 450 in pts/60 for NHL forwards. He's scored at same rate as Jujhar Khaira, 1.45 pts per 60.

What UFA out there (that they had a reasonable chance at...Panarin, Duchene, and Pavelski had zero interest in coming here, and anyone with an IQ above 40 knew it) could they have signed today that would make you say "this team is a lot better than it was at the end of the season"? There really isn't any. If this team is going to improve, it is going to be via the trade route. We all knew it for at least 2 months now.

And I get that, but 90% of the time, July 1st is where you overpay guys to fill the wrong role. I hate to say it, but I'm with Gerbe on this one. I almost feel better that they didn't sign anybody big. I always expected these roles to be filled via trade.

And until we start to win a little bit here, which really is the ONLY attraction for a city like this, FAs will sign their reasonable deals elsewhere.

Glad he didn't overpay for anyone.

And, It's July 1st - it's far from over.

Seems like they are punting the season again. Are they better than TB TOR BOS FLA MTL? probably not. and probably not better than 3/4 Metro teams. Signing one of these free agents probably wouldn't have changed that. hoping for more trades.
