I would literally trade them for five and ten dollars

Yet we kept them when you could’ve been free of their contract Lol

Meh, If Hayes got more than that, Lee is worth $7M.

I’m actually okay with botts not paying any of these deals so far.

Get me that trade though. Those “older” contracts that aren’t insane should be worth something

$70M, and he wants it back.
- Wetbandit1

Oh yeah, I'm sure he'll get it back. It's just sitting in an account somewhere

We only kept their rights. They are not signed automatically, that's not how QOs work. They're still free to negotiate a contract with any team. The Canes qualified Aho, that's why they still have the option to match, otherwise Aho would've been a UFA.

Teams must extend a qualifying offer to a restricted free agent to retain negotiation rights.

A qualifying offer is an official Standard Player Contract (SPC) offer which shall be 1 year in length, and which can be subject to salary arbitration should the player be eligible.

Clubs have until the later of June 25th or the first Monday after the Entry Draft to submit Qualifying Offers.

Qualifying Offers apply to Group 2 and Group 4 free agents.

Submitting a Qualifying Offers gives the prior club the right of first refusal to match any offer sheet submitted, or receive draft pick compensation.

If the player rejects the qualifying offer, they remain an RFA and their rights are retained by the team.

If a player does not receive a qualifying offer, the player becomes a UFA.

Evolving Hockey's best/worst contracts handed out so far in terms of AAV overpayment:

Panarin +$500K
E Karlsson + $1.8 million
Skinner +$650K
Duchene +$1.2 million
Lee +$500K
Hayes +$1.4 million
Lindell +$600K
Stralman +$1million
Nelson +$1.6 million
Murray +$600K

Thus, for everyone bagging Botts for Skinner to $9 million/year, there much worse contracts being handed out.

Below is a list of the worst agents because their clients should have been paid substantially more.....

Pavelski -$400K
W Karlsson -$400K
Eberle -$400K
Panik -$2.3 million
Kulak -$1.8 million

It's a little more complicated than that. They can accept their QO, reject their QO, or (in the case of ERod, McCabe, Girgs, Ullmark, Larrson, Smith, and Elie) reject and file for arbitration. JB may have his hands full with several arb cases. Frankly, they should all file.

Yeah, that's why I added Cap Friendly's explanation. There's almost never a reason for a player to accept their QO. It's simply an administrative procedure.

7 is high for Lee, but 9 is just fine for Skinner. They are legit the same player with similar stats.
I love this fanbase sometimes.

I know you get it. I just find it interesting that JB is walking into so many arb cases, when there's a clear league-wide trend to minimize it. He can't really want all 7 of them back....

Dzingel, Johansson, Ferland, Gardiner and Chiarot seem to be the only big names left. It's a good thing Botts stayed away.

The only thing left is trading Risto.

Skinner just turned 27

Lee turns 29 in 2 days.

One is coming off 40 goals, one 28

Power forwards like Lee usually don't age gracefully (Lucic, Ladd, Moulson etc..). After 2-3 years he's gonna go downhill fast.
