Leafs acquire Barrie, Kerfoot, and 6th in 2020. Going to Avs is Kadri, Rosen, 3rd in 2020. Colorado retains 50% of Barrie's $5.5 million salary.
How about they play the games before you crown them? Hockey isn’t played on paper - RatedR80
I don’t think it’s a given they’re gonna win. But I meant open your eyes about the job this guy has done. It’s amazing. And kept all of their top young prospects. They lost a 1st rounder. Big deal. I’m gonna check out some Vegas odds on them.
Dubas has had one hell of an offseason so far. Their team is literally stacked in every way now (once they resign Marner). Barrie easily makes their defense so much better!
They now have Muzzin, Rielly, and Barrie leading their top 4 d-corps, in which those three are IMO top pairing defenders. Now they just gotta fill in the gaps (Ceci as part of the top 4) and damn...

They replaced Gardiner and added a complimentary scorer for the price of Kadri's team friendly deal and a 3rd (Rosen and the 6th even out). Not the worst deal and Colorado has Byram and Makar on the fast track to NHL dominance.

I’m not taking anything away from Dubas....he is rolling the dice and we will see what happens....it’s a better roster then last season for sure and it better get them out of the 1st round this year.....no more excuses
Coga is undoubtedly cumming as we speak. - MaximumBone
We just talked about them getting another line and poof they have a deeper team then last year....now all Kadri needs to do is avoid a 3rd playoff suspension in a row

Maybe I better hold onto my money. I bet on Tampa to win last season.

Yeah. Not a proven set of 3 top-6 forwards but Compher has produced well for them and has scoring pedigree and Kadri is legit. If Burakovsky, Bowers or Greer can simulate Landeskog's top line presence, then he could slide down nicely into a great matchup line.

I think the best thing for Colorado would have been to keep Byram and Makar sheltered. Their team would have been stacked defensively. If there is anything we have learned, it's that you don't just expose talent like that, nor solely rely on them by placing them in a role they may not be ready for.
On an aside, Andy Welinski is a solid bet for Philly and they got him for cheap. Their D corps has it's flaws, but it's pieced together nicely compared to last year.

They had one of the best lines in hockey last season. I highly doubt they break that up.

But they were likely gonna lose Barrie for nothing next year and his future cap hit likely wouldn't have fit into their long term plans. Besides, it's not like they're not sheltered; all of Johnson, Zadorov and Cole are solid defensive players that can ease a lot of the burden for them as they make their way into the league.

Why would he be losing Barrie regardless? Where or when was there any news that Barrie wasn't going to sign in Colorado?
What I see is Sakic trading away a player that is just entering his prime for pennies on the dollar.
No hate on Kadri. I think he's a great 2C, but to give up Barrie? On top of that Kerfoot? Holy poop. - EdmHockeyMan
You realize he is going for big money next off season right? Given what Sakic has on the blueline I don’t think he feels like he needs to pay Barrie 8 mil and term on top of that.....so yes he got himself a top six guy with term instead

I would have rather moved Johnson than Barrie and given Barrie his deserved raise.
Johnson just came off a shoulder surgery at the age of 30. He is a great defender, no doubt, but if there was any time that they should have tried to trade him, it was now while they can. I can't see that contract doing them any good down the road (considering Johnson's injury history and age) compared to paying Barrie 8m and trading away Johnson.

Leafs have a ton of cap space next year. Barrie will get his 8m (hell, maybe 8.5m) and stay a leaf. You heard it here first.
