(Evander Kane, Zach Bogosian, and Jason Kasdorf to Buffalo for Tyler Myers, Drew Stafford, Joel Armia, Brendan Lemieux and the Sabres’ 2015 first-round pick.)

We have Roslovic to show for it and the jury is still out on him being anything more than a 3rd line centre?

What's probably worse not that Myers left for free because of cap issues but they got nothing for Armia. Lemieux went in the trade for Hayes and their 1st, only to cost them Trouba to get their own first back and Pionk.

Chevy has turned that team from a contender into a lot less in a very short amount of time.

Why did he sign then?
- 1970vintage

He signed a higher offer from montreal because he was being low-balled in Carolina.

All RFA's without contracts. Why Aho for Montreal?

Aho was drafted 12 spots behind Boeser in the 2015 draft.

Im guessing not every player will sign one, but one that’s get jerked around a but might

I know it's bizarre. Took them 8 years to break out of the rebuild and now they are entering another one. Unless Chevy has a bunch of aces up his sleeve for this season the Jets can be taking a major step back.

I don’t think it’s in the teams best interest but I bet you it is in Brock’s best interest .

I wonder if we could snake TJ Brodie out of Calgary for Juolevi and say a Leivo. Might give them the money to go get the top six they want. Jimbo would have to get rid of a contract though after the deal. Amazing how spending 25% of your cap on garbage can put your team in a salary crunch like us even when your not good.

But it’s still a relatively low $ amount for what he brings compared to his peers. Either he doesn’t understand how an offer sheet works, or his agent is retarded (probably fat too). The team’s first offer is obviously not its best...

The 5 year deal gets him to UFA sooner. I wouldn't be surprised if Carolina was strong arming with 7 or 8 year contract, or something that brings him a year shy of UFA.

He got low balled 6, then in the blink of an eye he gets a 2.5 raise thanks to another team AND to the edge of UFA where he can maximize his remaining years. Realistically, he's worth around 9.5 but leaving that 5 mil in difference over 5 years is easily made up on his next/final contract.

They offer 6 for 7 years I think? He cant go to arbitration, this makes him a very young ufa.

I’d rather a draft pick or forward prospect for T.J.

Neither of those two are very appealing to me

Do you think the Montreal contract was the best deal he could have gotten? So what if it pays $20m in the next 12 months? He’s going to have to shelter that money or end up paying half of it in taxes. Montreal thought by bonusing the money they could get their guy.

Now the contract takes Aho to his prime years, where Carolina can re-negotiate an 8 year (providing the CBA doesn’t change) or trade him in the final year of his contract.

Aho hasn’t gained anything he couldn’t have gotten by simply being patient and going through the negotiation process. I stand by my statement, his agent is retarded (and probably fat too).

Also, it doesn’t take him to the edge of UFA, he is a UFA at the conclusion.

Obviously if a team comes in and low balls their best player there's going to be back and forth with the potential for a nasty, long dragged out negotiation that could ruin the relationship between owner/player. But to skip that process and jump up 2.5mil is a great thing - like i said i think he's worth 9.5 but i doubt he would've gotten that so yes i believe that's the best deal he could've got.
Are you seriously trying to argue that a 20mil bonus in 12 months is a bad thing for the player? You're getting taxed on all of it regardless where you live.

Re: the first part, you mean just like Brock Boeser currently?

Re: the second part. It’s not a bad thing, but it also isn’t some incredible benefit to the player. He’s not going to have access to that money without giving half of it over in taxes. So there really is no benefit to him.

Unlike you, I have no doubts that he would have gotten a better deal later this summer if he had waited.

He’s not “at the edge”, that implies he still needs to get over the edge. He’s already falling...

Hasn't broke 70 games in a season yet as well. Have to wonder if health will be a long term issue for this kid.

Nope, he's at the edge and his next step puts him into Free agency - signs the contracts and falls into MoneyVille

Wonder what Werenski is asking for. I wonder if swapping Brock for Zack would work for both teams. Build from the goal line out.

No not like Brock - JB said openly the negotiation is going smoothly - opposite of the Johnston article.

As for Aho, apparently he asked for 9.5, got offered 6, settled on 8.5, that's a win for him IMO
