Kadri had 32 gosals two years in a row before being demoted by Tavares. I think Avs won this hands over first. Barrie has one year left and TO has cap problems even next year. - VANTEL
They have 1 D under contract next year, but that contract will be one of the best in the NHL over the next 3 seasons.
Paying 4 guys around $40 million means they won't have a great cap situation but their top 6 is locked up for a couple of few years once they sign Marner and they do have some prospects that should graduate on the back end.
You're right, they won't have a ton of cap space but they also have assets they can use in trades. |

Looks like a clear win for the Avs to me ! - Bullfrog77
Both teams get what they need.
Colorado still has something like 28 million in cap space or something stupid.
If they add Gardiner, maybe another add like Johansson or Ferland, they'll be a solid bet for tops in the central.
Kadri really helps add some length to their forward group. |

Colorado got something for a guy that was going to walk.
Kadri can play 2C in Colorado, plus a pick and prospect.
But Kadri has some baggage.
TML still won this deal imo.
Addition of Barrie is huge on the backend.
Subtraction of Kadri should also help...the guy is a royal douche. - dbot
Exactly....always in some sort of trouble |

At first glance I thought Dubas is gm of the year. After looking at the teams and scenarios its pretty good for both teams really. That Kadri contract to me though is the kicker. After thinking the leafa killed them at first I think the Avs won the deal but it works for both sides. - Jkuzzi
We will see next year when the Leafs have to ship out other talent to pay Barrie his 8.5 mil

That's what Toronto is doing. Creating cap space for the future. Same with the Ottawa trade this morning. Teams are helping them out.
Maybe Vancouver could get Kerfoot + for Chris Tanev now. |

I don't think they'll be able to afford it. They have re-sign Rielly in the future too. |

I think Dubas should trade Marner for Aho's right then match. That would solve cap space moving forward. |

Kadri is a huge asset for a team like Toronto. When you have Tavares/Matthews/Marner all making big time money then a player of Kadri's caliber at 4.5M is a godsend.
Apparently Dubas promised Nylander that he'd never trade him lol otherwise I think he would've been the one moved. I'd rather use Kadri as a C/W hybrid that can play in all situations, including against top lines at 4.5M over keeping at Nylander at 7M |

Feels like Toronto is building towards a Chicago-like team that's super top heavy and jettisoning depth but, without ya know, the Stanley Cups. |

I think Nylander will be the one to go next year (Johnsson and Kapanen emergence helps big time). His value was too low for them to get what they wanted this year. He'll bounce back, pot 65 points again and some team will pay a premium to take him, opening up money for them to use on their blueline while they also have whatever assets they get in a trade to play with. |

The only D they have signed for next season is Reilly at 5 million. They want everyone to walk next year. Ceci and Barrie are just here to give the kids another year of development time. |

Yeah i have to agree. Sakic has done a hell of a job building that lineup. Strong up the middle and now have a much better balanced offence. I also agree that if they get Gardiner they are going to be a serious force |

Kadri is a great trade chip.
Almost all of Toronto twitter fans are in the same boat as me that they fleeced Colorado hard. |

How drunk is Marwood right now? - A_SteamingLombardi
Just heading out to the woodpile with my first vodka & soda after finishing a refreshing shandy following the unpacking from camping.
Humpbacks, baby!! Two of them cruising the shore line at Bere Point. After seeing that they could've signed Myers to 7 x 7 and I wouldn't have cared.
I like the Benn signing. |

If it ain't from Woj don't buy it. I've seen it on Twitter and the reaction from most of NBA twitter is "Not buying it until its official" because I guess that guy sharing it is about as reliable as Ek and his E4's |
