His stat splits every year, especially this past season, are no bueno. 2nd half of season was pitiful. The "idea" of what kreider is/should be aren't reality. When i think of what he can be, I want to re-sign him, but it simply isn't the case. NYR doesn't have cap space to take that chance. I can't believe that we are now worrying about cap space already

That's the price that has to be paid w/ Trouba and Panarin

Too bad Kreider couldn't be dealt for Kerfoot, pick/prospect and another sweetner

- rrentz

That's also the sticking point for me. When he's on, he's unstoppable, and that's the Kreider we want to see every night. Kreider also hasn't been the same since the Price incident, almost tentative rushing to the net, I think that has affected him subconsciously. I like his leadership and would like to keep him, but not for 7x7.
Move him to make space to sign 99887766's guy long-term.

Besides, since Zucc isn't coming back, everyone is expendable.

Isles probably felt that Varly was more of a "sure" bet longer term?

Maybe Lou saw that Lehrner upped his Lithium dosage

Too far?

- rrentz

Nope. Took my wife to Mexico to trip on Ibogaine to reset her brain after 30 years of that poop. Fortunately she still likes me.

Give him 7 for 5 years

I don’t think a single move was a bad one though. Stepan, McD, Miller, Zucc (think we coulda got more there) Girardi. None of those make me say damn I wish they were still on this team with the exception of maybe Zucc.

The only thing that sucks now...we have to wait til September for the next thing to be excited about.

Free agency is awesome when you make big moves, but it only lasts for like 20 mins. Now the longgggg wait to training camp

- TPC

What a rush though! Dopamine for days.

If so, they should have then inked their known "sure thing" in Lehner to that same $5M for just one year, as Chicago gave him.
Varlamov has had his own share of off the ice issues, as well as injuries in recent seasons.

More moves have to be coming soon, starting with Namestnikov's $4M cap hit being dealt for a draft pick(s) only, as Vesey was dealt for just one pick early today. As of today's activity, the Rangers have a total of only $8,769,391 of current cap space. That's barely enough to just sign Trouba. Then they will still need an additional $6.2M to $7.2M to also sign their other pro roster RFA's in Buchnevich, Lemieux, and Deangelo.

That's why on Jan's prior blog, I posed the question early this morning, in that if Rangers fans want them to sign Panarin, it also means they must accept that a buyout of Shatty & or Smith would also have to be utilized. That's right where we are now after Vesey's $2,275,000 was also dealt to Buffalo for a 3rd Round Pick in 2021. It would require both Kreider and Namestnikov's combined $8,625,000 to be dealt in full otherwise to become cap compliant by the start of the season.

So who would you rather have now on this roster? Kreider's $4.625M for this season and possibly beyond, or either one of Shatty's $6.65M or Smith's $4.35M for the next two seasons, in also knowing that those two d'men will absorb ice time from one or more of their upcoming youth on the back line?

OOF! Those are some tough numbers.
Although Buffalo isn't somewhere players go to "figure it out", I wish Vesey all the luck. Hope he gets to play with Eichel.

I'm sad losing Zuuc too, but I think it's time to change your avatar...no?

If Kreider is still fuuuucked up about Price incident, then I suspect he is as mentally fragile as we fear.

I was waiting until he signed with another team.

Do you feel the same about Kreider and the net?

Happy for the signing of Breadman and would love to see Kreider stay since I think we really lack size and jam up front.. Would’ve loved Hathaway but it is what it is. I’m thinking they buy out Shatty for the simple reason Smith can at least play the wing and add some jam and at the price makes more sense.

Wow...really?

I was just joking about Lehrner. His speech at NHL awards took alot of guts. I give him all the credit in the world. If we can't joke about poopty things in life, how could we cope!?

I do see my share of mental illness being a special Ed. teacher, and I see 1st hand how Lithium and other meds can do more harm than good sometimes.

Id rather trade Nam and Shattenkirk as a package and retain 2 million on each. Nam+Shatty for a 2nd.

WTF are the Buff fans gonna do now w/ Vesey? Boo or cheer him? That's quite a dilemma

Buffalo also acquired two other one time Rangers today in d'men John Gilmour, and a blast from the past in Michael DelZotto, who ironically at least was on the ice after the Blues defeated Boston in Game 7, to celebrate their Cup win, while also ironically in contrast, a future Hall Of Fame goalie in Hank is still awaiting his chance to do so.
