It might seem crazy, but I think Panarin will be the captain eventually
- Slimtj100

You read his back story in The Athletic. Guy is a warrior. Came from nothing, has a chip on his shoulder, wants to win. id say he has captain material.

JD said he’s infectious too, good for the kids. I do think that was considered when they wanted him, being the captain and face of the team. Kakko is to young for that, let him develop first

they've never once signed a UFA even remotely in the same boat as Panarin, that's why it's dumb to bring all the other ones up in comparison

only one you could make an argument that it compares to is Gaborik, but Gaborik worked out well

I just think anytime you sign someone for big money they unfairly get labeled as a bust if the team doesn't win a cup. Never made much sense to me.

it's like being worried about Kakko because of McIlrath

Exactly. One has nothing to do with the other.

The more I think about what you said about Buch maybe being traded, I don't know. With how he played at the end of last season and having Panarin and Kravtsov here might just push him to have a monster season

I would say Richards coming off a 90 pt season was sort of in the same boat, but I think he did a little bit better than people remember him for. He never lived up to the contract, but he was never totally useless either. Him enabling Brass to play on the third line with Zucc was pretty big our Final year.

I don't think it's similar due to the fact that Richards was 4 years older, miles and miles of NHL hockey on him already, long playoff runs, was coming off a serious concussion, arguably past his prime

Panarin is on the cusp of entering his prime

I read a stat only 6 players have recorded at least 70 points in each of the last 4 seasons:

Crosby, Kane, Wheeler, Backstrom, Seguin and Panarin

He is elite. You are right no UFA they have signed is anything like Panarin

And the age thing is ridiculous. He has only played 4 seasons and doesn't play a physical game, and is as slippery as jimbos fleshlight

I talked to Kaapo after one of the scrimmages and he said he hopes to take 24 (I asked him because he signed my 24 Kakko Ranger jersey)

Boo?

Question is, will Panarin reach out to Kovalev to ask to use 27?

I saw a promo ad on some social media site that showed the Rangers selling Kakko's #24 jerseys. I figured it was already official

We got Panarin, so now he's on the team I am all for it, with what he brings, if we didn't get him I wouldn't have cried about it. what makes THIS signing different than all the rest is A) right side of 30 for a couple of years, B) He WANTS to be in the big city, some FAs seem to have issues with that and C) we've never had this much young talent to mold so lets hope all these guys and grow together.

Expectations for next season, be competitive, start to break in new goalies and break away from the old one. I love Hank but comes a time in all players that they gots to go.

McD had it after him so it should be fair game

I voted 27 on that poll too. It seems like 10 is a generic number the Rangers have given out countless times.

I know but he was a defenseman and not Russian. The number isnt retired or anything but as a young Russian winger with such publicity to take #27 is a bit different I feel. Especially cause the last time a Russian wore that number, we raised the cup.

No one would care if Malkin or Kovalchuk wore 17, but Russians do.

Has anyone brought up Mark Jankowski as a possible target? Maybe we could trade Strome to Calgary plus a sweetener (Georgy or a mid round pick) for him. Similar numbers to Strome, one year younger and is signed through next year at $1.675M vs Strome's $3.1M
