Really I said last year that the Leafs would regress having signed Tavares. He would put up good numbers for himself but overall team play would decline.

I said Tavares would put the Leafs into a world of CAP hurt this summer.

And, what part did I miss.

This is a soft team working at getting softer. Good regular season play. Powder puff in playoffs.

The core is young. You're just sounding like a whiney bitter Sens fan who just cant stomach that you left the Leafs as a fan only to cheer for a worse situation. Go to bed. You're 80 years old for heaven sake.

This deal makes no sense from a balance stand-point. If this is all people offered for Barrie we should have held onto him. Essentially a top 15 defenseman regarding points and much improved defensive play, better than just about anything the Leafs had, and we get an middle aged center with 44 points last year. We would have been better off keeping Carl.

Apparently Joe took a hit from the bong today and it is "Just All Good Man."

Again, not that I don't like Kadri joining the team, but to give up Barrie, and Kerfoot, and a draft pick, and keep half the salary for a 28 yr old mid-40's point center, an older d-man who will be in the AHL, and a 3rd round draft pick is ridiculous.

Kadri is a 30 goal center on one of the best contracts in the league. Dubas should have been able to get better than 1 year of Jake Gardiner 2.0

It's just nice seeing Kadri get some praise, now he's not a member of the Leafs.

5 years from now all we'll remember is when Leafs fans ran Kadri out of town

- walshyleafsfan

When did Kadri ever not get praise as a player? He’s a hot head, no doubt, but he’s a really good player.

Gee, how about you THINK for just one second, just once, before you type.

Let's see,who on the Leafs has disappeared the last 2 series against Boston?
Think about it ... think .... think... even though it hurts, think some more, until maybe you have an epiphany.

Usual salty Sens-fan contribution to the discussion.

Now you know I am saying what I believe. Dubas is taking this backwards. You can't let the character guys slip through your fingers. You cannot win in the playoffs without character!

Its basically Kadri for Kerfoot... and 1 year of Barrie's services. Not a bad deal for both teams I guess.

He’s not wrong. The leafs, a massively cap strapped team, just traded one of the best contracts in the NHL, for a dman who’s going to get a massive contract next year.

They’re either going to lose him for nothing after this year, or have to give up a bunch more assets to clear more cap space.

- sensarmy_11

Naw, they’ll just dump a bunch of crap on the Senators front lawn again

Wish we had a guy like Tavares...

But hey yeah character guys who get suspended in the playoffs constantly..yea gotta have those. Those games they miss are key to winning.

Kadri is a solid 2nd line centre and will put up better numbers when played like that. He can also play the high end players hard and get in their face, in fact he had his best offensive years when he was matched up against the likes of Crosby, Bergeron, OV etc. This is a really good deal for the Avs, locking up a 2nd line centre for 4.5 for a few years, I can see them doing very well next year.

Do you look at contracts? He’ll be signing somewhere else next year. Toronto won’t have the money to extend him. They are going all in this season.

St. Louis just won a Stanley Cup based on gamers who would not quit when the going got really hard. I think Leafs will regret this trade. I think Colorado just got a lot harder to play against.
- spatso

For sure. They also won because of a rookie goalie.

Leafs are going to start Woll or Scott next year to try and replicate the Blues

We dont even know what the roster and cap will be next off season. They might lose other players and keep Barrie if he plans out well.

But with guys like Marner Rielly Tavares and Matthew's all set to retire its gonna be hard to win in the future. Right?

Except that Kerfoot will probably sign 2 yrs for $2.5M and Kadri is already at $4.5M.

This is basically a 45 pt forward for a 110 points between Kerfoot and Barrie. The Avs will be paying about $6.25M for less than half of the production they gave up where the Leafs will have about $5.25M in salary with two NHL caliber players vs our one.

Hmm... maybe if that "character guy" didn't get suspended in 2 straight years, the Leafs would have won both series.

Sakic is a shrewd dealer. Kadri will take a lot of heat off of the top line skaters. He plays everyone tough and his numbers reflect playing behind Tavares and Matthews on depth chart. He will be a solid asset for the Avs. I had hoped that the Sens would have got him. But, not likely Dubas wanted Kadri in the East.

I dont think people realise how close in points Kerfoot and Kadri were in points last year and the production put up at both ages of 23 and 24.

Course they will.

We've been told for 3 years we haven't got the money to re-sign who we want. And yet all the guys they wanted to keep are still here.

We'll just unload some poop on the Sens

I think it's very likely Kadri returns to 30 goals and 55+ points. Also gives another skilled centre so that top line can be broken up once in a while.
