Good point at the end here.

If we don't trade, and Risto struggles again, he may be valueless. Right now he should still fetch something shiny. Perhaps it's as simple as that. We have better in the organization and he is our best opportunity to enhance our forward ranks.

There you go, good summary.

Maybe not in Buffalo, but the ROR trade went over like a warm fart in churchwith the rest of the hockey world. FYI

I don’t know if this is supposed to be good or bad.

This is the descriptor we use when we’re trying to get other teams to ale him. What if they’re all as smart as we are, and know he sucks and is bad at hockey?

- Der Kaiser

I do think his value has decreased, and I think it will further erode with more time. I suspect Botts is having a more difficult time in trying to move him...and IMO he has missed the 3 biggest opportunities to do so. He therefore might have to move off his valuation and accept less than anticipated.
That descriptor would be how the reaction will be when he "ROR's it"...you know, how those who love him will describe him.

Not fired up, disappointed, very much so.
I didn't expect much in FA so that is completely fine.
I suspect the "return" for Risto won't be there and therefore what we have is largely what we will have.
And that isn't good enough.
My earlier post on the previous blog talked about as they stand now, right now..they might get 85 points and 90% of that is projected from Krueger having an impact.

I wanted Miller, didn't want Vesey but he is better than Sheary...they improved marginally.
It ain't good enough yet...hopefully he has some big magic to come...I'm just not seeing it.

- IonSabres

It’s July2nd
No sense in being all disappointed NOW

There’s still teams in Cap trouble we could potentially make deals with
We still have time to move guys out
We didn’t make any dumba$$ signings

Botts hasn’t hit a HR yet,
but he hasn’t struck out either
He’s still up to bat...
and it’s only the 2nd inning

Nyquist would have lead the Sabres to the promised land. That's my interpretation of the previous 7 pages.

Sabres need to look at Sam at center. Phail lousley might have been at fault.

It's really easy to blame him. You should try it.

I've heard that two summers in a row know. He's either too toxic to trade now, or still has a ton of value and shouldn't be traded for spare parts.
- SDSabre

Only Sith talk in absolutes.

Probably a mix of the two. Botts wants more in return than being offered, but teams are unwilling to go big for him given his defensive lapses. At the same point, I assume, given the rumors, there have been real offers made.

Might be holding out for a bit more if a few teams are interested. The teams that miss out on Myers, Benn, Gardiner or whoever in FA, might circle back as well.

Just thoughts.

His skating is top notch, NHL ready per that coach. Plays smart positioning(Has to due to lack of size), excellent stick work in the corners to battle for loose pucks, can drive play. All signs of a modern d-man. I think he'll be a good one.

11.05 and they can’t match. They don’t have the cap space.
Granted you could go 10% over.
But ceici is getting 4.5 and kerfoot is getting 4.5.

They would have to clear out 10 mil in cap space.

Edit - not just for Buffalo but for any team.

- ImThatGuy

There is no way Kerfoot should get 4.5, He is a nice player, but not 4.5 nice

You know who this wouldn’t have happened too.

Cole Caulfield.

He would have avoided the hit all together by doing a back flip over the defender while still controlling the puck in the zone.

Caufield doesn’t get hurt, he hurts you.

- ImThatGuy

Oh my God, is this the new ROR crap, is it going to be everyday?
They didn't pick him, enough already, if you want to talk about how great Caufield is going to be go do it on Montreal's site.

Ah yes the old Tim Murray thing.

The next person that mentiones Murray I hope they get kicked in the nuts 100 times.

Just because Murray was a bad GM does not mean Botts will also be.

Also can someone tell me other than Bobrovsky what deals were “asinine, lunacy” as you all are putting it.

- ImThatGuy

Brandon Tanev, 6 years, 3.8 aav, Oh My, What the hell is Pittsburgh thinking? I love the guy, The most I would have offered him is 2 aav for2 years.

Because we’ve seen him at center he sucks
So what you want to put him at center and not trade for center ? Sounds like a great idea that worked out great last year with casey

Not sure 90 points is in order but one thing is for sure, this team hasn't been motivated in years, hopefully our new coach can lite a fire under some bodies.

I also think our team leader needs to kick some young guys in the butt (cough, Mitts, cough) and educate them on the importance of off season preparation.

- BigStew

I said on another site, the first thing Coach Krueger needs to do is heal the collective minds of the players on this team, It seems to be one of his strengths. So I guess we will see.
