agreed... but currently he is not on this team (man i really hope that is true) - SabresFaninIndiana
Gerbe wants just to completely rule out Sam at 2c.
I cant see why the Sabres wouldn't take another look.
It should be pretty obvious pretty quick |

How does signing a Jordie Benn (2mil)
Or a Gustav Nyquist(5.5) prevent this team from getting better?
NyQuist could ride 2nd line and be the veteran presence we need.
Benn at 2mil is the perfect 3rd pair d-man. - ImThatGuy
Those might not have been the numbers here. None of the comparisons are worth anything. Different teams, different markets, therefore, different economics. |

1 TDL
2 Draft
3 lead up to/ opening of FA.
Your point of taking advantage of other teams in Cap Hell is solid, but those teams have decreased.
Tampa, Toronto, Winnipeg, VKG (which he hit already).
Not sure who is in Cap Hwll now though.

Skinner is a bad contract, discuss. - ImThatGuy
Why? Where would you put the $9m? Who would find to replace this piece? I woud love to see the crystal ball everyone has. |

According to schopp, "positions are irrelevant"
He's playing 4d chess
He's kinda right. I'd be more concerned how many good forwards we have as opposed to where they play.
Top 6 forwards on this team
Eichel, Skinner, Reinhart
Good third liners:
Sheary, Vesey
Good fourth liners:
Okposo, Rodrigues
That gets me to 7 guys I actually need on the team. Give CJ smith the other fourth line spot or Asplund. Give Oloffson a shot in the top six. Pray Middlestadt can centre the third line. Now I'm at ten.
Basically, I need two top six forwards, and I don't care if they are wings or centres. Get me one for Risto, and then I need Botts to work one more magic trade like he did for Miller or Skinner. |

This is THE issue in my mind.
Jason, TO DATE has largely set on his ass while more teams have figured out how to move challenging contracts, acquire talent and add to their roster. More teams have run by the Sabres.
90 poi ts? Good friggin luck!
Yes, it is only July 2nd, however in the rear view mirror I now see the 3 prime events that teams have used to reshape the future of their roster:
-TDL
-Draft
-FA opening day
Trades will be made between now and October, sure. But the volume and quality of assets moved are overwhelmingly done over those 3 events above.
For this upcoming season, one of the few ways to impact the roster significantly is by trading Risto...however, the more time that passes, fewer teams will have need to do so by having found other options...Tampa, Vancouver, Winnipeg as examples who have already moved on.
Next we will hear that it was a tough market to move a friggin young, cost-controlled RhD with term left, who has solid offensive production, with a reputation for toughness, and is entering his prime years. - IonSabres
Did you get that interview? Or, the job offer so you can make all these trades happen as easily as you state...........How in the world can anyone on this board make that assessment?

There were only two contracts I had issue with yesterday.
Bob and Zucc.
any other contract I would have been okay with Buffalo signing.
NyQuist and Jordie Benn were two guys I wanted bad and they both got very team friendly deals. - ImThatGuy

Skinner has only scored 40 once and in a contract year.
He is generally a 30 goal guy. And since y’all are stuck on NyQuist thing.
NyQuist - .61 ppg over his career. 50 points per 82
Skinner - .66 ppg over his career. 54 points per 82
NyQuist is signed for less term and 3.5 less per year than skinner. - ImThatGuy
So GM - make it happen. It is so easy in the fantasy world and it is so awesome to bring down everyone.
GN - older and it has been 6 years since he sniffed 30 goals - has not been close since. BUT, it is an apples to apples comparison. Keep them coming. |

Not really imo. Playing center has a lot more baked into it. A lot of the best players in the world can't play center. It's reductive of Schopp to say it's irrelevant

The blind eye is actually 2 eyes wide open.
We had to overpay to keep skinner.
Maybe I'm on an island, but I truly believe the last 2 years were planned failures to draft early.
Jbotts did his job, in my opinion. - Boss34
Given numbers for the players just signed, what do you think Skinner gets? $8.5? And, given the numbnuts signing the contracts, errrr GMs, a number below $8 does not even get acknowledged by the player's agent. |

I agree there, but I feel like signing or trading for two decent top six wings would be a lot better than one top six wing and a borderline #2/#3 center just to get that position.
For reference, Hayes is a #2 center, and Lee is first line wing. Hayes got more money. I'd rather have Anders Lee and worry about the positions later. I also think its a lot easier to trade for wings. Teams just don't like to trade top centres. When we talk about wings available for trade, I like a lot of names. Center and I'm talking names like Granlund or Turris. |

i would much rather get another guy that is a known 2C .. thats easier said than done but i want to see that happen.. at least get another 2/3 C like Mitts..
we need an entire second line though. |

any center we probably get is going to be through trade, so hopefully they are more cost controlled than some crazy 7/1 contract signing guy |

Don’t they only have 6m left and they have to sign Kerfoot who will likely get 4m or 5 - gerbe75pts
The Leafs now have about $18.5m in cap to sign Mitch once Horton’s $5.3m is placed on the LTIR. Yes... $18.5m.
After the Aho sheet of $8.5m x 5, no GM is sheeting a player over $10.6m (four 1st’s). Leafs match everything less in a heartbeat.
I get it, you’d love nothing more than to screw the Leafs, but thanks for playing! |

No, what I mean is, if you go into the season w out securing a #2 center with the reasoning that you're going to "try" Sam there, and it's a failure, then what? |

Good post.
So we got. BUffataxed .500,000 - 1 million per year.
Skins may have even gotten 9 or 9.5?
1st 40 goal scorer in 12 years. Had to sign him, for the fanbase. Imagine how much extra we would have to pay an ufa to replace him?
And the ufa might not work with John jack.
Skins fits eiche game |
