You sign your best players and figure the rest out later.

This tells me right here you have no idea what money management is. It's vital to being an independent adult.

Mikael Granlund from the Preds (formerly of the Wild). One year remaining on his contract, several seasons around the 60 points plateau recently. He struggled in a lower line role with Nashville after the trade. Trade them Sobotka and maybe a pick (if necessary). They would save $2mil in cap space or lower cost to buy out Sobotka. They have Duchene, Johansen and Turris down the middle already. Should be a no brainer for both teams.

The time has come to admit that i am now a Sabres bridge jumper, at this stage of the off season. I didn't want to be one, but i am now. I have updated my location to reflect that. I need to be honest with myself. This roster sucks hard.

I am extremely disappointed with the quality and quantity of transactions made up until this point. It simply isn't good enough in my opinion. Even with a skinner-level transaction this summer, this roster isn't good enough.

It's year 3 of Botterill. He should have assembled more talent. We have qualified Elie and Sobotka is still on the roster. Sheary is now a LW/RW because Botterill can see that the roster depth at RW sucks.

Losing Pominville and gaining Lazar was a net loss on July 1. Pominville would be one of the better forwards on this team - which is incredibly depressing on several fronts.

I have found this wonderful resource, for anyone else who thinks this team sucks:

ANONYMOUS GM on Sunday June 30, asked what he was doing that day:
"I am getting rid of bad contracts today so I can sign new ones tomorrow."

It's early in the day July 2, the day after premium free agency signings. Teams now have better ideas what their cap situation looks like, and what their roster needs are. That context of certainty facilitates hockey trades, whereas FA is just a cash expenditure.

In a way, the Sabres signed their most expensive FA by retaining Skinner, and Botterill has said since February that he was going to be more active in the trade market than in the FA market.

As arbitration hearings approach, more certainty will be mixed into the market, and more trades will be facilitated.

I'm cool with it.

you head must look amazing under a CT scan.... why worry about the future.. if it wins us a cup.. umm just so you know signing just mitch doesn't automatically win us the cup. in fact with the rest of this team i doubt that would be enough.. therefore you have to worry about the future.. you are mind bottling

What moves would’ve made us Cup Contenders???
- jdfitz77

I'm not going to play this game. There's range of success between where we are, and cup contenders.

I believe that we should have done more to bridge that divide up until this point so we end up further along on the spectrum of success.

Vesey and Wilson. Wonderful. Vesey will replace Pominville's 15 goals.

Now you're going to tell me that if we're not going to be contenders this year, we don't have to worry about getting better this year.

Go for it

Like I have said when presented with that argument.

The Sabres need to get to .500 before they can worry about the playoffs/cup.

Currently this roster is the same aside from two pieces one decent (Miller) and one so/so piece(Vesey)

Those are not going to propel this team to 10 more wins to get back to .500.

Didn't Botts say he wasn't going to send any offer sheets in the presser where he didn't want to say whether Risto asked for a trade? I believe he has black listed offer sheets along with CHL players and 2nd line centres.

I’m done with the Excuses supposedly the problem was that Phil Housley was holding them back

So what’s going to be the excuse this year.
