Little more food for thought.

Ralph stated he wants to be harder to play against, acquire some players with the grit and snarl effect. There's still some decent bottom 6 forwards that would be much better than the Lockport trio.

- TheSabresTaco

Agree 100% We seriously lack in grit. Ive said this several times in the last 2 blogs. This is where I differ with some on the Okposo situation. He is not fast enough for a top 9 and he is an eggshell, timebomb too soft for the 4th. I know he is capable of playing with some grit at times but sticking him out there on the 4th line and asking him to play STL blues style hockey is irresponsible. That leaves no place for him on this team

I don't think he's soft, but for the love of God, Kyle, stop fighting. You are going to die

I meant soft in the terms of highly injury prone now

But D-Lo already signed elsewhere! And Hudson Fasching transcended the NHL and left earth to play in the Galactic Space Hockey Federation...

Interesting article on the Atheltic today about bad July 1st signings. Both Drury and Briere made the list. For as much lamenting as we all do about losing them we never look at the other side: these guys were never as good later on. Sure, Briere had 3 good years but he was bought out not long after that. Drury was already on the decline. I am not saying that we were better off.... but it isn't like we lost these guys in their prime.

He’s too skinny to be in the nhl let him develop

Dylan Cozens

"Cozens is very physical and always finishes his checks; at times to a fault, as his desire to mash people into the boards can make him the last forward back on an opposing counterattack. He’s quick enough, however, to eventually catch up and place himself in the right position to ensure there aren’t gaps in coverage. Cozens always keeps his feet moving and keeps his stick active, and his quick turns and pivots allow him to stay with his man, especially while he’s killing penalties. Overall, he’s an excellent 200-foot forward who is very good on draws, can anchor a penalty-killing unit, run a power play and assume top-line duties."

They could have been had for much less though if it was done right.

Briere should have been 5-for-25 the year before, well before arbitration.

i believe we had a 5x5 offer on the table from briere.. i think he signed more than that.. at that contract it would have been a good deal.

If Briere had stayed, though, I guarantee we would have won a series or 4 between 08-12

This is why I like Ferland playing on the 2nd line with Reinhart and center X

Yeah, I think that was the year before he left. It's still interesting to think about - we may have (in hindsight, of course) actually regretted signing Drury. Then again maybe if we keep one of them then we let Vanek walk for the four 1sts.

They made a couple decent trades. Nothing earth shattering, but good value trades. Good Rochester signings that should keep them towards the top again. I think we earned that grade.

Now, DO SOMETHING ELSE, BOTTS!
