Yeah, I think that was the year before he left. It's still interesting to think about - we may have (in hindsight, of course) actually regretted signing Drury. Then again maybe if we keep one of them then we let Vanek walk for the four 1sts.

Anyone ever do an exercise on how that would have played out if we drafted all of those?

Give us all the defense.

That would mean.

Scandella
Risto
And another d-man would have to go.

Interesting article on the Atheltic today about bad July 1st signings. Both Drury and Briere made the list. For as much lamenting as we all do about losing them we never look at the other side: these guys were never as good later on. Sure, Briere had 3 good years but he was bought out not long after that. Drury was already on the decline. I am not saying that we were better off.... but it isn't like we lost these guys in their prime.

Chris Drury as a Ranger

264 games played 151 pts

Chris Drury as a Sabre

I'll never forget where I was. I was pulling into a Noco and almost pulled an "O'Reilly" before there was an "O'Reilly".

Car, meet side of building.

Seeing as Edmonton sucked for many years after that I think it would have been a gold mine for us

i think they would have changed course on their direction had we not matched it.. although i dont think they would have been a perennial contender i think they would have been a fringe playoff team while making other moves.. it probably would have set them back even more than they were

Serious question:

Skinner-Eichel-Sheary
Olofsson-Dahlin-Reinhart

What's Dahlin's stat line look like?

I'm saying 20+45

People need to understand, we can't pay to many players 7, 8, 9 mill a year. Not with Eichel and Skinner cashing in, along with Dahlin soon. So your 2nd line guy is gonna cost 4-5 a year until Mitts or Cozens is ready. Moving out Risto is going to make the defense worse, unless you get a very good 2nd line center but once again, that will cost money.
- SABRES 89

Correct.
But
But
But
Some say the hell with the cap, go sign good players.
I fault Botts for not
Signing Pavelski, Karlsson and Panarin
Offer sheeting Point, Aho and Marner
No, not one..all

Norwood had 1 job to do. He wasn't asked to block anyone, call an audible, pass the ball, or run. All he has to do is kick the ball through the uprights and he failed. He blew it. Eff him - forever.
- kritter65

You have no clue.

It was 47 yards on grass. Certainly not a chip shot.

Hate all you want, it's on marv and the game plan.

Ball control, use Thurman.

Call Botts, tell him we found our 2C.

Defense is for losers who lose the puck. Get this boy a shorter stick, let's GO!

I Would Love it just to Rub it into Toronto's face 8x a year!

Toronto media going insane over how Marner could do this to them LMFAO!

Instead of asking why TO management hadn't locked him up early, and allowing a young Star to reach RFA without a contract is not good idea.

They actually had the nerve to BLAME Buffalo for signing Eichel early long term!

Who didn't know Eichel was Special?

I loved Vanek but he wasn't changing the fortune of those teams that much. Those were some awful teams. I bet at three of the picks are in the top 10.

I didn't hear if he asked for a trade but our fiend on here Boss34 said that he heard Risto wants out. If Botterill wantd to move him, he would be gone by now but it's still early.

They made a couple decent trades. Nothing earth shattering, but good value trades. Good Rochester signings that should keep them towards the top again. I think we earned that grade.

Now, DO SOMETHING ELSE, BOTTS!

- Powerslave

The peripheral trades are nice. We need a needle mover.

Offer sheet 2007 for Vanek was 2007

2008 #1 Eberle
2009 #1 Paajarvi
2010 #1 Taylor Hall
2011 #1 RNH

Id say it would have been worth it
