Yeah well 5 of the guys that played in that game were 9’s or worse. |

"Anaheim – After trading Montour to Buffalo for the left-handed Brendan Guhle, the Ducks are thin on the right side with Josh Hanson and Korbinian Holzer. Anaheim is no longer a Stanley Cup favorite, but adding Ristolainen to a group that includes Ryan Getzlaf, Adam Henrique and Cam Fowler would go over well. Versatile Rickard Rakell is one of the few forwards without a no-trade clause." - Sabre_Tooth

How about we get to .500 first
Which as it stands this roster is virtually the same as the one that did not make it there. - ImThatGuy
But here’s the thing...
We could overpay on these mid tier (at best guys) and they could possibly help get us to the playoffs- but not much further realistically
BUT
Those guys will also be locked in, taking up Cap Space, PREVENTING us from being able to afford the type of guys that can really help make a difference for us
You PAY for top talent
Not 7mil for guys like Hayes, etc |

11.05 and they can’t match. They don’t have the cap space.
Granted you could go 10% over.
But ceici is getting 4.5 and kerfoot is getting 4.5.
They would have to clear out 10 mil in cap space.
Edit - not just for Buffalo but for any team. - ImThatGuy
You have 7 days to match. You use that time to move salary out...then match. |

Lehner also came out and said the Isles did him dirty by offering him low term and money. They gave him an ultimatum and when he came back to try to get a little more money they had already moved onto Varlamov.
That's why he ended up in chicago. - Sabre_Tooth
Another Lehner excuse...
He's full of them. |

Rakell turns it up like little joe in the playoffs .. But I don’t see the ducks moving him - gerbe75pts
thats great and all... but him alone does not get us in the playoffs.. especially along with the loss of Risto |

I'm not going to play this game. There's range of success between where we are, and cup contenders.
I believe that we should have done more to bridge that divide up until this point so we end up further along on the spectrum of success.
Vesey and Wilson. Wonderful. Vesey will replace Pominville's 15 goals.
Now you're going to tell me that if we're not going to be contenders this year, we don't have to worry about getting better this year.
Go for it - jcragcrumple
Moves like Hayes for example would make us better,
but not good enough to be contenders
Then we are stuck with his 7mil,
and not able to add legit players that could help make us contenders
And if u “don’t wanna play the game” and say what moves we should’ve done,
then quit whining |

oh yeah i was more going for the value of what we would get it return.. if that was our D for that game we probably would have won.. but when Rory Fitz is your 3rd highest minutes guy you are in trouble |

He also said that he didn't want to go that many years with some players, which is fine, and understandable. So I think some of them would have come here if he offered the years.
But if he's not going to offer competitive contracts to FAs, then he needs to supplement the team via trade.
Which is what we're all waiting for, and Jimmy Vesey doesn't count. I'm super surprised that people are good with this overly patient approach. Or maybe people are just ambivalent now. We should have done more to this point in the off-season.
The problem is that he has an excuse for every non-move
No one wanted pick 31
He didn't want to give up too many years to FAs
He has a lot of excuses for why the team looks like it does - jcragcrumple
When the Sabres make a few moves over the next 2-3 months, all your crying is gonna make you look foolish.
Its July 2nd .
Go root for another team. Dallas spent a ton of money yesterday. Get yourself a stars hat.
As I've been saying:
Phail lousley could be the reason we sucked.

Teams aren't built thru July 1st free agency

Tim Murray signed a bunch of guys to contracts that we are desperate to get out from under. That's why this roster sucks so hard in the first place.
The last thing I need Jason Botterill to do is give even more guys contracts that we will be desperate to get out from under before they are half over. |

So if we offersheet money mitch or Point you would honestly care what happens in the future ? If it wins us a cup we can be crappy for another decade and I wouldn’t care - gerbe75pts
So you believe they are that 1 player short of being a cup ccontender.

Ah yes the old Tim Murray thing.
The next person that mentiones Murray I hope they get kicked in the nuts 100 times.
Just because Murray was a bad GM does not mean Botts will also be.
Also can someone tell me other than Bobrovsky what deals were “asinine, lunacy” as you all are putting it.

Seriously, what free agents really wanted to join the buffalo Sabres?
Is that jbotts fault that we are the armpit of the east?
Hes only been here for 2 years.
I'll remind you everytime he makes a significant roster move to improve the sabres.
The last 2 years got us dahlin and cozens by design.
We killed off 2 more years of okposos terrible contract and our stars all aged another year.
It's time here in Buffalo. Minimum 90 points next year |

Projecting KHL superstar Nikita Gusev’s possible impact on the Golden Knights
Gusev was better in the KHL than Panarin, Radulov & Dadonov. @domluszczyszyn model projects his worth at 1.6-1.8 wins, which is similar to Alex Tuch & Erik Haula.
@Gerbe
I don’t know who domluszcyszyn is, but his model says Gusev is probably worth $4M per year. |

A caller on GR last night was saying the same thing about Risto. "its coaching, he needs a real coach". My first thought was..."Nolan was no good, Disco Dan was no good, Housley was no good...when is it Risto's fault that he's terrible??" |

Nolan deserves zero blame.
The cards were stacked against him , on purpose.
You must remember the mceichel draft right?
Bylsma was average to below
Phail was terrible. How can you defend him?

Zuccarello's deal would fall under that category.
Donskoi's deal was fine, but we don't know what Buffalo offered (or if they offered), or how much more it would have taken to get him to choose Buffalo over Colorado.
Nyquist: see Donskoi.
Those deals were fine, but they were at the ceiling of "fine". Any higher in salary or term, and you're in Tim Murray territory.
Fact of the matter is, this team was always going to be changed via the trade market, and we all knew this since St. Louis hoisted the Cup last month. |
