And it was a good send off

It’s time to move on

Unless we add a RW or two Pominville sadly would be are 2nd best RWer on our roster of signed. Assuming JBotts has plans about this?

The Staal thing is never going to happen. Part of the reason he took a value contract was to get a NTC

We're probably going to roll with Erod and Mitts, barring a trade

- jcragcrumple

In that case,
I’d guess that E Rod’s line would get more defensive starts to try & put Mitts in better situations

But if we don’t bring in a 2way center for the top9,
then I’d also expect Larsson-Girgs to get a lot of defensive minutes again
I know you’ll hate that...
but they were probably 2 of our best defensive forwards last year

LA have recently kicked tires on Edmonton RW Jesse Puljujarvi.

But apparently cost of doing business is taking on Milan Lucic contract, something LA not inclined to do at this time

That is a big price to take for a current borderline bust. There is no way the Sabres would take on that contract for that player.

We have 12 NHL dmen on the roster, something has to give. Johannsen is still out UFA there as is a potential trade for Gusev, etc. this plus trade capital of risto and McCabe will get us a 2c and a top 6 rw

Makes sense
But my issue with this is that we’d have to give up good assets (which we have few of) for a guy to be here only 2-3 years
Or we could not give up much, but then obviously get a lesser quality guy...
and if that’s the case, why bother?

Mitts could be our 2C a lot sooner than most on here are thinking now

Last year everyone thought he was getting 50+points

And i warned that if he wasn’t a stud right away, ppl shouldn’t jump ship...
like they kinda are now

Just bc Mitts didn’t develop as fast as Barzal,
doesn’t mean he’ll take as long as Nylander
Mitts still has a chance to be VERY GOOD
and sooner, rather than later

- jdfitz77

A lot of people see a young player do well in his first 6 or 7 games and then think hes gonna be a superstar immediately. Doesn't work like that. Especially when those games are usually at the end of the season and the opposing teams don't care to play hard against us.

Half of Lucic’s goals last year were in that ONE game against us
6-14-20pts
No freaking thank you
I’m astounded that there’s some who actually want him here

Definitely could
I’ve been talking up Gusev for a few years now
I’d love to get him

Exactly
It could’ve happened that he was a stud right away
But when it didn’t,
now it seems like ppl think he’s “years away”
And maybe it will take that long
But the kid is super talented and could make the leap to 2C this season at some point

When you’re as talented as he is,
it usually doesn’t take too long

If anyone thinks Larsson and Girgensons are "defensive forwards" let alone GOOD ones, needs their head examined.

Just because they suck offensively doesn't mean they're good defensively

One of my biggest pet peeves in the hockey world is the misuse of the term "two-way forward." To be a two-way forward, one of the ways has to be offense, but most people use it to include people who suck offensively and are good or decent defensively.

Same with "can play up and down the lineup"

9 out of 10 times, that is untrue

After driving from Orlando to Buffalo the last two days all I can say West Virginia is the worst state in the Union.

Any roomers?

Worked there for months last summer, I agree to this statement. The city of wheeling is spooky with how many zombies are walking the streets.

They were good defensively this past year

That’s provable beyond a reasonable doubt.

They also suck offensively

That’s proven as well

Both can and are true

Larsson: -8

Girgensons: -11

They were not AWFUL defensively. But they were NOT good.

I mean seriously, +/- is a wonky stat, but for this, I would argue 100% that you have to be in the + to be even considered good defensively.

It's what drove me nuts about the Vanek haters. Vanek was underrated defensively, and that can be attributed to Lindy but either way, he was like a Marion Hossa-lite.

That means the only regular forward who was good at defense last season was Jeff skinner coming in at 0 for plus minus.

He did his work with his stick and didn't hit, so therefore he sucked defensively.

Same with the effort thing. He didn't look like he was trying because he was silky smooth

I don’t think Jeffy is as bad a defender as many make him out to be.

Also, he drew 18 more penalties than he took, which is nice.

That wasn’t really my point but I will agree to an extent.
