I think it needs to be said continuously, that if Skinner can perform like a 7-8M player through the majority or all of his contract, that paying an extra 1M is so much less significant than sitting here with nothing but Vesey, Sheary and Olofsson. - TheSabresTaco
Bottom line we all need to remember is he would have gotten 8Mx 6-8 anywhere. Then you have to add the current state Buffalo tax. We will have to pay this tax for any VG-Marquee player to get them to move to Buffalo and suffer through a (another)
rebuild. |

Skinner has only scored 40 once and in a contract year.
He is generally a 30 goal guy. And since y’all are stuck on NyQuist thing.
NyQuist - .61 ppg over his career. 50 points per 82
Skinner - .66 ppg over his career. 54 points per 82 - ImThatGuy
Nysquist career high in goals is 28 and he did that 5 seasons ago

CJ Smith signed to a 2 year $700k AAV per the Sabres app. - buffalofan19
That's the 5th 700k contract signed in 2 days. Fascinating. |

I mean, the opposite can also be true, and this may be the gamble he's taking. All the other players are gone, and 2/3 teams are left with only Risto as a RD top 4 quality left. He makes out better then all the others traded because he has a monopoly on the market at that time. See how easy that is to spin a narrative in whichever way you want it to. Best course of action, don't guess what another person will/won't do. Because you really don't know. Half the board was screaming why we didn't take advantage of Vegas for Erik (frank)ing Haula. Only to take the better asset from them a couple of days later. - SDSabre
This could be true, if the demand stayed the same. But it looks like it has decreased.
Some team could enter the market I guess.
We shall see. I remain unimpressed to date.
Hope he proves me very, very wrong. |

Let's grant your argument for a second that Skinner's contract is a bad one.
I definitely don't think it's a great one.
Let's also grant that the Sabres would probably have had to pay more for Nyquist. Otherwise, he would have signed here and not Columbus (if he even had any interest in playing for Buffalo at all). Now you're picking up 2 bad contracts instead of one. |

Can we get to .500 first?
That would be a start. - ImThatGuy
So pay a 30 year old so we can shoot for .500?
No thanks.

I love when ppl try to define “goal scorers” by their point totals to diminish how good they are
Skinner >>>>> Nyquist offensively

Could be as early as this year IMO. More likely 2 more years. I like Miller as his partner too. |

I see we're doing more pretend time that Skinner hasn't been one of the best 5v5 goal scoring forwards in the last decade. |

Or... they really do like Risto & think he could be a part of helping us get where we wanna go
Sometimes the best moves are the ones u don’t make
Ex: O’Reilly
He got talked about as being underwhelming,
and look what he went & did
Meanwhile, we still suck and are looking for a replacement for him
Could very well be the same thing with Risto - jdfitz77
Yup, sometimes the 5th time works out well.
Sure hope so.
Do you think his value will depreciate further if super magician Ralphie-boy is unable to fix him?

Tampa sure doesn’t think he’s “broken”
But u know more than them, so ok
It’s not like I’m saying don’t move him
Just better be for a legit return
And be prepared to miss him more than u think u will |

Sure, but they overpaid, and it will be a bad contract in 4-5 years. Is what it is.
I was proving the point that there is such a blind eye to Botterill currently and he can basically do or not do whatever he wants and people are fine with it, because Tim Murray. |

Hence the gamble part. Idk that it "decreased" RHD are always in a premium. My point is, if he was never blown away by an offer, why do it? His job is to make the team better. Only trade to do that. Don't just trade to trade. |

Every team has one of those. If you're going to strike out on them, strike out on the higher end players.
None of the players signed yesterday, aside from the ones that we knew Buffalo had no shot at (Panarin, Pavelski, Duchene) are anywhere close to that.
