Mitch deserves every bit of the 11 mil he’s going to get.
(frank) MacKinnon, (frank) Kucherov, (frank) Aho, they’re all dumbasses and should fire their agents. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Aye this right here. Just give the guy 10-11 and then try to get Nylander's point totals high enough that he can be moved next year if we do in fact want to keep Muzzin and/or Barrie |

Totally agree — if they really want to keep them and they are open to sensible deals, assuming Nylander bounces back can flip him for younger/cheaper assets |

This situation is a little ridiculous.
Everyone knows Ceci sucks, yet we also know arbitration will give him a huge raise.
I feel like the system doesn't work. - Scabeh
It doesn't work.
He will get a small raise... and we all hope this gives the Leafs the chance to walk away from him.
4.5 has got to be better spent elsewhere.

Paul Dreger update... DREGER still believes Marner is getting offer sheeted. He's still saying that Leaf fans making fun of him on Twitter isn't bothering him at all...
- gergeswillems
well... then the media guy should block all the fans on twitter... I mean he doesn't need the fans does he?
I guess when you double/triple/quadruple down on "Offer Sheet Spew" for months on end - because you have nothing else of consequent to say - this is outcome.
he would do himself a big favor if he would simple put info out there delineating how many GMs he spoke with who were going the offer sheet route...
but I guess that number is actually zero for Marner ... so .....
we're calling BS on Dreger

If it was player elected arbitration AND the settlement is over a minimum amount then we can walk away. I don't know what the minimum is but I imagine it is less than his qualifying offer.
If he signs his Qualifying Offer, or the team elects to go to arbitration, then the Leafs have to keep him.
I am scared that they actually want to keep him |

We didn't really get an offer sheet. We just got a lesson in how not to offer sheet. |

Rielly - ??
Muzzin - Barrie
Dermott - Ceci
so trade Nylander for your topline RHD.
not sure if there is anyone fitting for that role though that could be had for Nylander (+).. - MaximusAurelius
I've already traded Bill Ny to Vegas for Gusev and a 1st. |

Anything reasonable, the Leafs will match.
If some team, like Columbus or Montreal, offers him like 13 million for 8 years then there will be a big decision.
The thing is, who wants to overpay that much, AND give up 4 firsts.
So, whether there is an offersheet or not, I don't think it is a concern at this point... especially if they can somehow get away from Ceci.
Not only do GMs not want to interfere with each other, they also don't want to be embarrassed. There are Habs fans who like what Bergevin did, but there are a lot of people who think it was laughable.

I actually had a dream that Gardiner signed with the Habs. That's how (frank)ing lame my dreams are. |
|
|
|
Worst case is it's one year of Ceci vs. 5yrs of Zaitsev...
Maybe getting out to that Ottawa hell hole will somehow inspire Ceci. |

I am terrified that we will ultimately wish we kept Zaitsev.
And don't get me wrong, I think Zaitsev is poop. Absolute poop.
But did you see the deal Myers signed? |

I doubt they want to keep him, they might be trying to move him to get something better for that $4.5. Something like Ceci and a 4th to Arizona for a box of popcorn.

no doubt... personally I think Bergevin threw that thing (offer sheet) without too much fore thought... but good - albeit ill-advised attempt.
I'm just trying to mock Dreger - for complaining that he's being mocked.

The fact that Zaitsev couldn’t make any tape to tape pass makes it easy to never have to think about him again.
Leafs probably had the most icing in the nhl last year. |

It should work. The Leafs can walk-away on any arbitration amount in excess of $4.227. Since his QO was $4.3, it's unlikely the arbitrator would give him less than he had previously earned.
Unless the arbitrator was doing their job properly, in which case Ceci would get $45 and a bus ticket home. |
