What if they offer him 12? Would you like that? Because they aren’t going to low-ball two players in a row. If they offersheet, they’re doing it to get the player, and Leafs will match anything under 11.5 imo. - Arctic_AARDVARK
True other than Waddel sent a lower low ball. Aho hits a homerun sooner & the Canes are the loser.
Comparables a fancy word for not much other than media has something to use.
Want some comparables?
Kane 10.5m signed years ago
Panarin 11.6m just recently
It’s all nice to try using comparables but if it were truly a real thing who would need agents & why would different players all think the same & have their own reasons?
Arbitrators use comparables yet but none of them ever had a hockey job in management positions in their life. - Nighthawk
Those aren't comparables though. Those are UFA players, older, and Kane has several cups.

Both of those comparables are strictly UFA years. Kane's RFA contract was 6.3m or 11.09% of the cap.
If any of the current RFAs want their contracts to end before the UFA period starts, the salaries should reflect that no UFA years have been purchased.

Lol, the only way to have worse comparables would be if you picked defenseman.
Those were all UFA years in both contracts, panarin as an open market free agent. Marner is coming off his entry level.
I agree 100%. I'm not sure why anyone thinks he deserves Matthews money or even a contract better than Kucherov's. I have a really hard time with RFA's feeling they deserve UFA money. I like Marner and hope he's here for a long, long time. But not at Matthews or Tavares money. If he insists on that, trade him.

Well.. things change.. and nowadays athletes get paid based on their projection, not their prior accomplishments. I have no issue with that. And I don’t think Marner cares if MacKinnon or Kucherov hired a poopty agent that didn’t get them top dollar, it’s not his problem.
North American deserts rock. Ive been a fine dinning chef for close to 25 years and i've always prefered them to French deserts. There's something about baklava though.
Strawberry cheesecake is the king, then there's about twenty others i could interchange depending on my mood. I'd probably have to bump baklava to top ten now that i think about it.

Nope. Anymore than Aho signed the Montreal deal. He must really want to be there.
Unless you're suggesting Matthews is a comparable to Marner (which still seems odd to be addressing my post that is saying Kane and Panarin aren't good comparables).
But the problem of using Matthews as a comparable is that he's a center instead of a winger. Centers generally earn more. Matthews also scores more goals, and probably has a higher points per game (although this year Marner might've done better).
