so trade Nylander for your topline RHD.
not sure if there is anyone fitting for that role though that could be had for Nylander (+).. - MaximusAurelius
Nylander's not moving; Ceci's playing with Rielly or Muzzin, says Ceci/Dubas. |

No I was told that a stay at home D is someone who can skate and move the puck when I challenged them.
They don't even know what they want - gravyface I feel like stay at home defenseman have evolved a bit. They're exceptional in their own end, but can find an outlet pass or skate it very little into an area where they can push the puck forward. I just use Brandon Carlo as an example because I obviously watch him a lot. He can find an outlet pass and skate with it a bit, but you would never see him enter the offensive zone and rarely see him join the rush. I also don't think you really appreciate those players until you need one or realize that you have a really good one like Carlo |

This situation is a little ridiculous.
Everyone knows Ceci sucks, yet we also know arbitration will give him a huge raise.
I feel like the system doesn't work. |

It's wonderful, Leafs are not obliged to pay what the arbitrator awards.
Edit: They can do like Monty Python

Oh of course. The Leafs are better off walking away from this.
I just mean, why is it the arbitrator ends up giving a player big money when no team would realistically give it to him.
Obviously the way the arbitrators evaluate players and their just value is wrong. |

Dubas said ceci is playing with Rielly or Muzzin.
Maybe he gets bumped down to 3rd line when everyone is healthy and/or he sucks.
Dubas talks about being able to help improve with the leafs though. |

That's just a good defenseman. Dubas on TSN alluded to modern vs. old school here:
"In Tyson’s case as well, get up the ice and defend using his mobility and press right away versus backing in. Those are the types of things I think of when I think of them. It is not the traditional back-in and run guys in the defensive zone. We want guys who get the puck quickly and then transition quickly so we don’t spend much time there." |

He filed for arbitration and has a qualifying offer from the Sens (that still sticks) worth 4.3M.
Dubas mentioned that "Ceci has an arbitration coming up this summer" in one of his pressers, so I suspect they're going to let the arbiter sort it out, at which point they can walk if they don't like it, get Gardiner back somehow, etc. etc.
It's actually super smart: you have another 6 weeks basically to look for better options and if nothing presents itself, you sign for what the arbiter awards him, which will likely be 4.5M. |
