It's wonderful, Leafs are not obliged to pay what the arbitrator awards.
Edit: They can do like Monty Python
- winsix
isn't there a time window during which the team(the Leafs) and the player(Ceci) can negotiate a contract...- while they wait for arbitration?
actually think Dubas would be dumb to walk away from Ceci at this point... with their lack of depth particularly on the right side, and with Ceci knowing (he must know how he's perceived) that he has an "show me" season upcoming...
you'd like to think the guy would be a bit pliable ...

Rielly - ??
Muzzin - Barrie
Dermott - Ceci
so trade Nylander for your topline RHD.
not sure if there is anyone fitting for that role though that could be had for Nylander (+).. - MaximusAurelius
Dubas said no more trades, so work a D in that we already have.
Probably start the year
Rielly Barrie
Muzz Ceci
Just my guess.

I really really hope the Jake Gardiner express has left the station... jeez imagine thinking your GM has gone through all these roster trimming exercises and paying to get rid of Marleau's contract....
and then resigns Jake Gardiner.
if Dubas is that stubborn or dumb (or both)... then he might as well just trade Dermott right now... |

I'm just wondering why Gardiner hasn't signed yet. Is he waiting for the Leafs? Or are teams scared off by his back injury? |

Jakes shrink is waiting for the paycheck they will be getting if he re-signs with the Leafs.
Poor guy just a victim of not meeting the upside of his potential. |

If we can fit him under the cap, I'd prefer to do The Law Solution ® - Give him a $4 million signing bonus, $500,000 salary. Trade him the next day.
Bring in Jake at $4 million for 1 year - and a chance to prove his back isn't wonky. |

Wouldn't get anything for him in a trade, if his number is too high from the arbitrator, let him walk. |
