I’m fine with 7 mil at 5-6 years, that 7th year is dangerous but in 7 years what’s 7 million?
- nyrangers9479

That’s a pretty good point, 7 mill in 7 years could be like 4 mill now

That would put the cap at $143m in 2026 lol

As of right now Krids and Trouba are still under contract until next year. We can hold off on deals until we make a trade and a buyout since we should have Cap space next off season.. We have horrible luck signing/ Trading D-men so if Trouba flops we may have some bargaining room. Then deal with Krids contract. This team is small and soft and will get pushed around can not afford to deal Krids right now. Nam needs to go. I like Strome and thought he played well. See ya Marc Staal. Bring up the kids.

From Edmonton blog:

I know a number of our commentors have discussed the merits own bringing in Gusev over the past few weeks. Honestly the player wasn't on my radar because I assumed that the Golden Knights were going to find some way to sign him. When you have produced at a better rate than fellow countrymen like Kucherov, Dadonov, Radulov, and Panarin did in the KHL.... you assume a team is going to find a way to sign you.

Any rumors out there regarding Kreider/Nam etc? Seems quiet lately with the rumors
- nyrangers9479

Outside of whatever pre free agency interest there was in Kreider, (mainly by Boston, Colorado, and possibly San Jose until re-signing Meier), I don't feel that Gorton really intended on moving him, unless it was necessary to do so as part of a package in order to part with either Shatty or Smith.

As far as Namestnikov, word prior to July 1st had some teams interested, but for little in exchange due to his $4M contract remaining, though for just one more season. Those offers were likely similar to the minimal return Gorton finally settled for in trading Vesey to Buffalo, in order to depart with his $2,275,000 in cap space, to increase his offer slightly to land Panarin.

I think Gorton, (in having one of his four RFA's eventually reach arbitration), will wait if necessary until just prior to the close of the second buyout period to buy out either d'man, should both have still not been dealt. But first, Gorton will likely make other cap creation type moves not only in part to help re-sign his 4 RFA's, but with the hope also of extending Kreider to some long term.

Yes, if expectations come to fruition, Gusev's potential could reach that up to a Panarin or Kucherov. But in that case, why would Vegas want to part with him? They could relieve cap space through other options instead.

Valiquette was on XM radio Tuesday, and stated that Quinn's opening words at training camp after the signing of Panarin would be, "our goal is making the playoffs", as opposed to his words of last season. He also stated that the Rangers needs now are to acquire more veteran experienced leadership for their youth, & more so at center, in order to take that next step after faster accelerating their rebuild.

For the past 2 or 3 weeks, I felt Brian Boyle would be their best low cost option to bring that leadership, "plus". But should they suddenly create significant cap space, Gorton could pursue one of higher stature to become his #2 center, rather than experiment in moving players back & forth between wing & center, in having Zib and Howden being his only two strictly natural centers.

Vegas gets a Bruins 2nd rder and a Rangers 3rd rder

Rangers get Gusev and Kuraly

Bruins get Kreider (or Buch) and Namestnikov

-Bruins get players to play to replace Johansson, Kuraly and Accairi

-Rangers save a few bucks, I get my two coveted players 😆

-Vegas gets some no cost assets

That’s a fun one!

I kind of agree, I wouldn’t trade him until I saw him play for me. But until he officially stays there I want him. It’s such a weird situation for a player to be in. Personally I just think he fits in with this group, and who better then Panarin to show him the ropes..It’s almost the same career path as Art (coming here later on in age)

He’s small but so what, St Louis and Zucc where small. This guy has figured out how to be a good player and he’s stated he’ll take a two year bridge

Did you just return TJ after having drinks Friday night with "Rangers9479", in officially becoming the second Rangers member, trades designer and dreamer here?

Gusev's small size wouldn't prevent the Rangers from pursuing him if he was indeed available. They would have been also happy had Hughes been left for them instead of Kakko. So should Vegas entertain trade talks with the Rangers on Gusev, they could possibly have one in Gusev with potential close to Hughes, in joining Kakko anyway.

I think the best thing for the Rangers is to sign Kreider. However, we really don’t need to make that decision this summer, let the year play out and worst case if the contract talks go nowhere he’s a 1st (in a very deep draft) and good prospect at the deadline. By then Chytil/Andersson/Howden will have another year of experience and Kakko/Kravtsov will hopefully be more comfortable. This lineup is fine without Kreider but better with him.

A team that could take the cap hit and actually use a guy like Namestnikov is Minn. They lack depth even with the Zucc signing, he could slot up and down their lineup
