We have issues. Any team that misses does. Listen I like the way you guys are going about your business but my point still stands. A lot of money for those two guys. Neither is a center and trouba isn’t a #1. I’ll give you he’s a 2. Will they live up to it?
Who is getting traded to clear up the cap? Any chance of moving shattenkirk or is it Kreider? Rangers will be extremely young next year. - Just5
Did you see our D last year? Trouba is definitely a #1 for us. |

When did any flyer play defense? Goalies go there to die because they can't play D, Bobovsky got resurrected in Columbus and is now a coveted goalie. |

What does that mean Trouba isn't a #1? A number one defenseman or a first line defenseman? Because even if he's a #2 d-man, the top 2 d-men are usually on the first pairing. So he IS a #1. |

See husks of Elliott, Eery (RIP, only meant in terms of NHL play), and Neuvirth and nod in agreement. Ever Mrazek was passable on the Wings and Canes. Just wait until they somehow ruin Carter Hart |

I was about to reply the same! "Your guy isn't a #1!!! He's only a top pairing guy!" |

In 2 years the Rangers essentially have an open cap. Basically only will have Zib, Trouba and panarin on it. I am not worried about Trouba and Panarin taking up too much of it. The cap will rise as will all future contracts. Trouba at 7.5 million or so might not look that bad in 3 years.
But you are right. Rangers need to shed some salary right now. IMO Smith/Shatty one of them will be traded or bought out. Also I think Nam or maybe Buch is gone as well. |

I think getting Panarin is a huge deal for Kreider. Hes got someone else there to shoulder the load and he doesnt have to feel like hes gotta carry the team on his back as the longest tenured. forward they have. Kreider now wont always have to face opposing teams top defensive line. I think he might finally pop that 30 goal cherry. |

Obviously thats the other outcome. However, not sure they want to do it, unless they absolutely have to or they get an offer they cant refuse. |

I'm guessing he meant like a Burns, or Letang, Karlsson.. etc. The clear cut best d-man on the team. The guy you put out no matter the situation. Like Keith was for the Hawks when they won there last cup. That was just insane what he was doing. |

Well if the going rate for a true #1 is 10-11mil, Trouba at 8mil is about right. |

I've said they have to do two of the three: buy out Smith, buy out/trade Strome, trade Nam. They can do other stuff, but these are probably the easiest options.
Shatty probably wouldn't get the return that we'd need. The second half of last season he was quietly solid. IMO it's worth keeping him this year. Kreider could get traded, but I'd want a real return for him and it might be a mistake to force that many young players high in the lineup. - 2sticks1puck
If someone offered a 4th for Shattenkirk, full salary, you taking that? |

In a vacuum no. However with our current cap, I think you'd have to at least think about it. |
