Zaitsev and Hainsey were salary dumps of course. But what's your opinion of Ceci? He'll have to improve a lot to help the Leafs, don't you think?
I guess he's relatively young for a d-man, but? - grahamzky
Ceci is in the same boat as Pionk here: known as terrible, overexposed often, but will also likely have both A: a smaller role and B: the best partner he’s ever had.
Expect improvement, but nothing past an okay 5/6 D |

Myers and Chairot are replacement level. I’m not worried. Neither is a top 4 dman, and neither ever performed as such with the Jets. Myers had stretches, but also worked his way down to “meh” again.
I don’t think it’s a stretch in any way to consider Niku and Poolman as superior, seeing as Niku is still in his development years and has already won the Norris-lite, and Poolman has solid NHL numbers so far while ending his AHL year with 17 points in the last 22 games.
As for Enstrom? Yeah... most fans aren’t particularly well versed in how defence actually works. Even actual NHL teams struggle with evaluating defence, the Jets being one of them. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to find only 1 in 10 Jets fans misses Toby, as only 1 in 10 is likely to have done any research whatsoever - Rexypoo
So do you go by research when evaluating - or do you evaluate by what you see?
Whatever, I just hope Chevy's alarm clock is set. |

Agreed, was just hoping (praying?) that the Jets weren't interested in CC. Pionk is a real unknown to moi. Not expecting much, but might/hopefully surprise. |

I would have played enstrom over Myers and Chairot all day - Ross77
So do you think that the Habs would dole out $3.5 mill for one year of Toby Enstrom?
Or that the Canucks would give even a $3 mill contract for even one year of Toby? |

It was reported on tsn as well as others that a lot teams offered enstrom deals last year and he choose to go home to Sweden.
Just because teams sign players that doesn’t make it the right choice. |

It was reported by several different sources, if you pay attention to that kind of thing. 11 year NHL vets still in top 4 roles with 50 point seasons in the past do not go without contract offers. Injury risk aside, people would bite. He chose to go home |

Honestly, Pionk should be given the Stanley special, as far as attention goes. Completely forget about him, and the circumstances of his arrival, so you can just be pleasantly surprised if he ends up being an okay 5/6. |

Letting Myers, Chairot, and Tanev walk completes the holy trinity of “don’t do anything stupid” for Chevy.
They are all replacement level players, all overpaid for too long, and all have superior players already on the team ready to fill their spot. Vesalainen, Niku, and Poolman easily outclass Tanev, Chairot, and Myers. - Rexypoo
I agree Rexy. I actually agree!
Tanev was a 3rd liner at every level in his career, BCHL, AHL, NHL. To give the 27 year old a 21M commitment was a absurd. The only way this club can move forward is to filter through these players, keeping a few and moving on to entry-level contracts to fill the voids. Vesalainen, Niku, and Poolman are all ready for their roles in the NHL, and Appleton and Raslovic can certainly carry a larger role going forward.
With Meier signing a 6 year 6M extension, I feel this sets the table for both Connor and Laine to be in the 6-7M AAV ranges, keeping this core in tact. Pionk will surprise some people with his offensive capabilities. Rangers will miss him, especially with his likely cap-friendly hit. Looks like the Trouba show has already begun in NY. I bet Pionk notches 34 points for the Jets while making 2.75M AAV, and Trouba will notch 38 with a 7.85M RFA deal........
I am happy with Chevy, avoiding the above names, not to mention Hayes. He is dodging bad contracts nicely. |

Some rumours going around about Chevy and Bergevin of Mtl talking about Laine.
I say take two firsts , a second , and a third plus a prospect and then offer sheet Matthew Tkachuk. Jets would be way ahead.

So you're saying there's hope then?
Maybe get Brandon back in a package deal? lol

Heard the same rumours, also said montreal would prefer to trade. I’ll
Make the deal only if it’s an over pay.
Drouin, Suzuki, a top D prospect (who may start the year in the ahl but possibly finish in nhl) plus picks that include a first. I’d also like to know what Gardiner would want to sign here for and if its possible and fair. If we could turn Laine into Gardiner, Drouin, Suzuki plus picks and prospects. I’m listening and considering. |

Let’s walk Laine and Connor straight to free agency. That will go well |

Meier will still be a RFA after 4. Toronto is walking Mathews straight to free agency with his 5 year deal and paying him the max in the process. |

So? Leafs just offer Matthews a massive deal a year before hand.
People need to let go of this Arizona fantasy. LOL. They are broke and never make the playoffs. |

Rely to myself! Guess we can't get Tanev back when he's in Pittsville.
Maybe Chiarot? lol No, I realize that ship has sailed. |

Imagine, if you will:
Perreault-Scheifele-Laine
Connor-Copp-Wheeler
Ehlers-Little-Roslovic
Vesalainen-Lowry-Appleton
This is likely the most lethal forward group the Jets will ever have iced. One can make an argument for flipping Little and Copp, simply because Little and Wheeler have past chemistry, and Copp is a better safety net for Roslovic |
