In a way, you could say they traded Brown, Kadri and Zeitsev for Barrie, Kerfoot and Ceci, with a virtual wash in cap space.

Everyone involved is in their prime essentially.

Can easily run with 13 forwards 7 D and 2Gs on active roster. Mix that with ir and the leafs can easily come up with the additional 1.5 to 2 million they might need. Not very hard if you know anything about how the cap works.

When marner signs they drop one of the forwards they are carrying to stay away 13. Then they drop one if their 8 d. That'll dance another 1.5m leaving a total of 10.5 top start the season. They'll save a bit of ir money as well on Hyman but only 100k or 200k. They save nothing on dermott because his replacement will have a similar salary

of course they can and they actually might if marner contract + backup goalie contract come in a bit higher than expected.
not sure which players (apart from bracco, sandin, liljebust, mikheyev, korshkov) are waiver exempt though..
gauthier might be lost on waivers if it comes to that.

yes, thanks - didn't remember they had the waiver info in there as well.

so leafs can just get a 20man roster, and waive one or two of harpur / holl / gravel if needed in favor (and get borgstrom, liljegren in there).

i do understand that marincin and timashov and others like sparks/hutchinson have to be put through waivers pre-season if leafs want them on marlies.

I'm a little surprised Dubas offered Ceci that much. Does he actually think the guy is going to have a decent year in Toronto?

Why wouldn't he have let him go to arbitration? If they decided he was worth less, then great, and if it was higher, Dubas would've been able to walk.
