People keep telling me this.
I refuse to believe it until I see it. (frank) I hated Zaitsev. - Leafs43
You know how when everyone tells you a movie is great, and then you see it and you're like, "But . . . was it?" Because they set your expectations too high. The opposite is usually true when people tell you a movie awful. The movie is still awful, but it's not THAT bad.
That's how I want to approach Ceci. |

Even Paul Dreger confirmed weeks ago "11" was not part of the discussion.
He might get into the 10's if it's a 8 yr deal but at 5 years the battle ground is probably 8.5 - 9.5. I'm guessing the Leafs are pushing for that 6th yr.
They'll lock him up and have a few bucks left over. They'll save a few extra bucks with Hyman being replaced by a cheap Ahl'er for the first couple of months. It's tight but they'll have enough at the to grab a D rental at the deadline. - The Law
Mitch isn’t getting 11m imo
Anywhere near 10m or lower is doable. |

Hyman had ACL surgery end April out 6mths taking him til the end of October.
Dermott shoulder surgery in May out a minimum 6mths.
Currently $3.7m cap space.
Take both off the cap for temporary LTIR savings of 3m.
Add Horton 5.25m & that’s 12m total.
Hyman projects at a 350k LTIR relief
Dermott at a min 150k relief
12m leaves nothing left for Hyman or Dermott when back in the ice. Marner won’t cost 12m though so it gets dicey on what Marner signs for but
Marner has to sign for 10m max for Hyman to play then Dermott later on. More if either Hyman or Dermott have more extended time off.
Hows my math?
That is also only using a 22 man roster. - Nighthawk
You're over thinking it. Ignore Hyman and Dermott. They've got 3.7+5.3+(1 or 2 waiver demotions = 700k - 1.5k). So on October 1 they'll have 9.7-10.5 to sign MM. That assumes a roster of either 22 or 23 skaters.
Plus as you point out they'd score a few extra bucks by replacing Hyman with a cheaper guy for the first month or two. Dermott's replacement is going to have a similar salary so no real savings there. |

FROM PAGE ONE OF THIS BLOG:
I'm going to throw this out there from the last blog:
If you assume Marner @ 10.5m, the leafs are at 82.87m (including Kessel's $1.2m retained) with Horton's $5.3 LTIR not deducted from that. With the LTIR for Horton considered, there's an additional $4m or so that can be added if they had to improve upon a Marner offer or seek backup goaltending. The important part of that money, I think, is that any flex money there along with Ceci's cap expense, and the increase, can go towards Muzzin/Barrie/Dermott next year.
1. Johnsson (3.4) - Matthews (11.63) - Nylander (6.96): (22 million)
2. Hyman (2.25) - Tavares (11) - Marner (10.5): (23.75 million)
3. Mikheyev (0.93) - Kerfoot (3.5) - Kapanen (3.2): (7.63 million)
4. Shore (0.75) - Spezza (0.7) - Moore (0.78): (2.23 million)
S: Petan (0.78) - Engvall (0.93): (1.7 million)
1. Rielly (5) - Barrie (2.75): (7.75 million)
2. Muzzin (4) - Ceci (4.5): (8.5 million)
3. Dermott (0.86) - Liljegren (0.86): (1.73 million)
S: Holl (0.68): (.68 million)
G: Andersen (5) - Hutchinson (0.7): (5.7 million)
If we consider that Hyman or Dermott will be out, there may be replacement players in those spots for a month or two, however the replacement players will likely make the same (Dermott) or less (Hyman) which will add to the available cap pool, but not in any significant manner. |

Right ...so nothing to see here. He'll get what he gets and the Leafs will be tight but fine. |

With Marner its 24 players then 21 once Horton Hyman & Dermott go on LTIR. Either run with 21 or add call ups will use cap space. However which way Dubas chooses it’s nip & tuck but doable. |

That’s the way i see it working out. Unless Marner is ape poop bent on 11m. Say he is & holds out & gets it the Leafs will still net less than an 11m cap hit when it is prorated. |

I know you're young, but let me tell you, the amount of times I've heard this player or that player sucks when they're still just 25 or under, who then turn out to have a solid / great / incredible career on another team is countless.
Ceci cost us nothing. Let's see what the guy's got. Worse case, he's Z but we're out after a year. Best case? He rebounds in a big way and is a pleasant surprise for the year.
And please, enough about Sparks. - mcleafs

Horton isn't included in those 24. Capfriendly's starting point is 14+8+2 + Horton. So 9.7 Milly is with 23 man roster and 10.4 with a 22 man roster. |

Looks like the Canucks are close to the cap and no Boeser signed. Likely offer sheet incoming for about 8.5M |

Yeah, thats going to end up being a bad signing. Myers was a 3rd line pairing dman last year for Winepeg. |

How much cap is that?
That's always my argument: Avoid wasting cap on crap. And people are made Leafs use their cap on young stars. LOL BIG difference. |
