It will. He'll be an Islanders in 7 days and we'll be able to look forward to the draft again. |

If Leafs take the compensation, the only way it makes sense if they add Tkachuk via offersheet..
I would be very very surprised though if Marner would sign with NYI - poopty team and poopty arena.
Only MTL and NYR make sense imo. |

I think it would be funny to take the Islanders picks.
Welcome to the Islanders Mitch...
I guess he plans to move also. He won't exactly have any local hero treatment here anymore

One of these days you'll realise that that is only your opinion and that others think differently than you.
But I guess today is not that day.
IF Marner accepts an Islanders offer-sheet, it proves one thing; all he cares about is money and the argument about feeling "disrespected" is complete horsepoop. |

Take the picks for sure. Re-sign Gardiner (unfortunately) and trade for Zucker. |

I would think most GMs would value 4 NYI 1st round picks more than Marner.
I would assume there is a lot of respect between the two GMs...I feel as if the leafs truly can’t afford his asking price they will talk trade over an offer sheet.

Yeah (frank) marner if he does that
I really don’t see how he thinks he’s worth more than 9.5 especially after the Aho offer sheet.
Whatever...worse case we get 4 1st round picks to trade for someone decent...plus the cap space.
I prefer Marner but not if he’s going to be a little female dog here.
It’s a total bluff though...Paul would give Mitch a spanking if he left his family in Toronto. |

Idk about that.. That’s a lot of money and so far out of line what he should be paid. It would be interesting. |

Shore is a depth piece..there will be games where he’s a healthy scratch. He could even be on the Marlies.
As it stands now I see Babs using Kerfoot on the PK. We’ll see if that’s true but Babs likes speed and the fact Kerfoot can win faceoffs I think we see a lot of him there this season. - Santo_44
We won't know anything until after camp. Shore is a depth piece. But Max isn't incorrect. He has been an effective Penalty killer before. His numbers point to a guy who's defensively responsible on the PK, and effective at reducing high danger chances.
You can see Babs using Kerfoot on the PK. Maybe he will. He has a nice FO%, so there may be a role for him there, but based on history and evidenced by the fact that Babs was quite willing to throw out a PK with no centres at all, if we have other options it's less likely Kerfoot gets used there (admittedly with Hyman out to start the year, there's going to be opportunity for other guys to step up). |

You can’t overpay anyone in the NHL. It’ll come back to bite you when you need the space. |

depends on the communication between Marner's camp and Dubas.
Marner only signs an offersheet with a team he wants to play for (again, I don't think it will be NYI, but we'll see).
the offersheet option is much more interesting for Marner because:
1/ he gets to pick his contract (team he would be traded to still need to agree on a contract with him)
2/ he gets to pick the team ; Toronto or offersheet team X. (in a trade, Leafs would hold all the cards).
I personally think that if Marner signs with NYI, leafs should let him go.
If he signs with a big team (NYR/MTL) then Leafs should match.
Reasoning is that I can understand signing with one of these other original six teams where it is really not only about money, but as well as being part of something big (like in Toronto) - while signing an offersheet with NYI shows his motivations are different (money, being in NYC, maybe being on same team with Martin his friend (?) , etc.).
so I could respect him signing an offersheet with MTL/NYR, not with NYI - so you let him go in the latter case.

I don’t think this is true...Babs doesn’t like using stars on the PK. The Leafs top 2 centres are stars.(and Matthews isn’t particularly great defensively...but that’s another debate)

Would make sense. Surely, he would've been snapped up by now.
CJ and other media people have all pretty much said "I don't know how, but the Leafs and Gardiner are still looking at getting something done". Or words to that effect. |
