If they want a player that bad, at that price, they're making a mistake.
What's especially funny though is this...
Ceci's name isn't new around here. Somebody once mentioned him as a target for the Leafs in years past.
And the same people who are on their hands and knees for Ceci today were giving the exact same amount of vigor in their disdain for acquiring Ceci back then.
But now that he's a Leaf, the tune has changed. - JohnFergusonJr
Who would you rather have? Ceci or Zaitsev? |

Right!
I am sure Dubas hasn’t done his homework and there are several better RHD options they can afford to sign!!
Stop being a knob.
No one is thrilled with Ceci and most likely, neither is Dubas. But he was probably the best option for the money they had to sign a dman.
Stop acting like you know better then Dubas, makes you look stupid. |

Just a few people that just hate everything. Never happy.
With Max and JFJ going on, all we need is Prince and Uggy and this place will have officially gone full retard!
(frank), I am so happy Max has ZERO to do with the real decisions made by the Leafs.
**EDIT**
Now throw in a little kaptaan - .HOHO.

Remember the days when we spent to the Cap on our poop teams???
Weird to think that the Joey Crabbs of the world pushed us to the Cap Max yet, now with JT, MM, AM, KK, WN, AJ, MoReilly, JMuzz, TBarr, Derms, Freddy, we're still finding room for CC, Kerfoot, Spezza........and more...
So unreal that people are actually trying to find issues with our current situation. - Barb34
Definitely in a better situation now.
Since leaf gave in to Nylander, why wouldn't Marner wait until the same December deadline... assume leaf will give in again.
Dubas can make a move here or there to make some space. Get another top D for Nylander, boom sign Marner in December. Overall team gets better. |

For me, strictly as players...flip a coin. But I'll take Ceci for 1 more year over Zaitsev for 5 more years any day.

That's a great question.
And the correct answer is neither.
He did well to dump Zaitsev (thankfully Ottawa is also stupid and we've dumped our trash there before) but he also had a way out with Ceci and the way out was to either let him go to arbitration and then walk away from the settlement.
Alternatively, give him a signing bonus so his salary would be really low and he could be traded to a cap floor team later on if need be. |

Steve was such a douchebag at the start of season one but his story arc took a huge turn for the better. Now he's one of everyone's favourite characters. Him and Dustin are my favourites for sure. Mike's mom is such a smoke show, I'd give her a go before her daughter Nancy any day of the week - LeafGuy89
Yeah, Steve has had some of the best character development in the show.
He went from douche-extraordinaire to best single mom ever. |

If all things were equal, I'd take Zaitsev.
But they're not. Zaitsev has too many years. In this case, I'd take the one year of Ceci and then dump him.
Unless some kind of miracle happens and he gets good at hockey. |

That's the real value of the Ceci trade. They get out of paying Zaitsev long term and only have to stomach Ceci for one season. |

Right, so if they were going to give him 200K more than that, it should have been in a front loaded bonus fashion so his salary was something like 700K so they could dump him on a cap floor team later on. |

I don't imagine it will be tough to move that contract near the deadline, it would have less than a mil owing on it. I was on the walk away from arbitration line in the sand, but like you I'm just a fan without a vote, so oh well. Maybe he will surprise us and not be terrible next to Muzzin, or maybe he will sit in the press box for the season and then we can move on. |

Nylander’s contract is going to be a hell of a team friendly contract over its lifetime. |

As per the statistical breakdown on Sportsnet, he's actually worse than Zaitsev in his own zone. And he's horrible on the PK.
The real fear should be not that he plays beside Muzzin (another guy people falsely think is good in his own zone) but rather that he plays beside Rielly and heavy PK minutes. The real fear should be they treat him the way they treated Hainsey. Because if that's the case, he's going to be a disaster.
If he's sitting in the press box at 4.5 million, that'd be horrible as well.
They should have done everything to dump him ASAP. |

How long do you plan on talking about this? It’s a one year contract ffs. It’s tradable at the deadline if they don’t like him.
You’re always searching for something to cry about but this one is a stretch even for you. |

Should have, but didn't. Time to focus on something else.
Also, I really doubt they traded for Barrie to have Ceci play as Rielly's partner. Babcock's choice, yes, but that seems to line up pretty nicely. |
