Even if they were late 1sts you could definitely turn 4 1st and that cap space into a top pairing dman and a top 9 winger. - HealthyScratch6
Ya you could always parlay them, but unless you hit the jackpot with a trade or draft pick then you would always be looking at marner and wishing you had him back. |

You can trade the picks for more of a sure thing. Not many d in the league you couldn't acquire for 3 1sts. |

What if the AVs gave Marner an offer sheet?
They can afford it, and can afford to give up 4 late 1sts.
That one would probably hurt the most. |

Avs have a ton of cap space BUT going forward, they will be maxed-out before you know it with their young talent. lots of guys to sign. |

I look at 1st round pick positioning.
I mean picks 25,26,27 are nice and all but they don't replace a top dman. Would you trade Reilly for those picks?
I think a top D prospect would be included in any deal for a top defender, even if it only meant 2 firsts were going. |

You don't think a rebuilding team would ship out their top dman for 3 first. The next one might be predictable but the 3rd could be a lottery. No team that is a lock to finish top 5 in the league have the cap space to offer sheet either way. |

For sure, but they also won't be drafting high again with their own pick for the foreseeable future unless something goes horribly wrong. They'd still have 13 players under contract for around $60M next year including Rantanen and Marner.
Like I said, I think they're the worst case scenario.

Who are you thinking, someone like Doughty?
Like I said, I'd want a blue chip D prospect in the deal. Teams will be lining up for a player like that, 3 late firsts really isn't that strong. |

Doughty is what came to mind but over time im sure other would open up. Dumping doughtys cap hit I'd say they would jump at 3 1sts. Their pick will be high and then they'll have another pick they could use to move up or look for a steel. I probably wouldn't do 3 1sts for Doughty at this point but if you wanted to make sure you got him you could. |

You bring Colton Orr, tiger Williams and Wendel Clarke back for your game against Colorado and hope it’s early in the year😀 |

Or you use the 4 1sts to get rentals at the deadline 4 years in a row for the playoff run.... good for the cap too

People questioning the Tavares signing...... are you better off with 5 years of Mitch or 6 more years of JT and 4 1sts? |

I just checked the names on the Stanley cup and Mitch Marner isn’t on there. Get real buddy. The money Mariners agent is trying to get is beyond ridiculous and the Leafs GM Dubas should make that very clear and part ways.
A kid who is good but hasn’t won a thing should be put in his place. I’m a Leaf fan but this gone way to far. |

Better with more years of JT and Mitch together which is great because that's what we'll have. |

5 days is too far? Should all the other RFAs who haven't signed yet be traded too? |

I think years 4-6 of JT's contributions will help determine that.

IF you look closer it's right beside Mathews and Tavares. |

Right, if Dubas didn't put Nylander or Matthews in their place, Marner is more than entitled to get what he thinks he deserves |

I think Nylander's deal will be a bargain. I know he had an off year last season but throughout history most players that sign late struggle for parts of if not most of the year.
The kid just turned 23 and already has two 61 point seasons under his belt and was an elite talent in his draft year.
I wanted the Canucks to take his at 6 if he was available. |
