We’ve always known Toronto fans to be reasonable - sbroads24
Jake Gardiner would be a huge get. He controls the play and is a great breakout passer.
His numbers were always good, but does make the occasional just WTF play. |

In terms of fan opinion, sure.
In terms of actual production, one is really good, the other is a below average top 4 - sbroads24
in year prior to auston Matthews (and babcock) when the Leafs sucked, Gardiner had a stat-line of:
20:58 ATOI (fourth amongst t.o. d-men)
4 goals, 20 assists and was a minus-23

This should be the only thing that matters, no?
The only, and ONLY reason we shouldn’t want to add him as a second pairing LD over Jake freaking McCabe is the concern over his back. That I understand. - sbroads24
ok...what kind of contract you willing to give him?

The back scares me off long term.
He’s a much better player than Tyler Myers or what we have on the left side past Dahlin

Agreed.
Hopefully 18-20 goals, 50ish points, experience, great zone entries (thanks, Broads), decent size. |

Very underrated player. Good deal for the Sabres. I would have taken him back at 4.5 in a heart beat but we dont have the space. - Mahewman
We have been having issues on this blog with people not understanding what a "two-way forward" is.
It's this dude, peeps. Solid on D, can put up numbers, I don't think there's a person in Buffalo who should be unhappy with this deal. |

Johansson?
Oh boy...
Try 12-18 goals, 40-ish points and a middle-6 role with PK time. And that's exactly what we needed. A middle-6 guy with experience and responsible on both sides of the puck.
Yeah, he is a Swede, but I think for Mittelstadt's development, this is a great pickup. He is exactly what I knew we weren't getting in Berglund. |

I wanted this guy, Hayes or Dzingel. Hayes got way too much term. Botts crushed this one. +20% optimism for me. Well done. 2 years is great |

No, it doesn't. He is a role player and his career numbers don't suggest otherwise.
I wouldn't be surprised if you guys turn him into Sobotka by December. |

Lmao pretty straight forward, makes sense I suppose. He had a pretty solid year though. |

I was ecstatic when NJ landed Mojo for 2 picks. He spent the majority of his tenure on IR. He gets concussed with the slightest contact. Temper your expectations. Still, the term is short and if he stays healthy he is a good player. |

I would think that if Gardiner were getting a deal longer than 4 years, he would have signed it by now. The longer a player goes unsigned, the more leverage the teams have. |

who would want to sign a 29 yr. old d-man with a wonky back to a longer-term deal? |

I think he's on the team now. It's a 3 horse race between Johansson, Mitts and Erod, and Johansson is 3 lengths ahead. They didn't sign him to play LW.
If Casey looks good this fall, Johansson might slide to RW, if not, Johansson is the dude |

He slots in perfect at 2C for now.
Now work a deal with Risto / Ehlers with Winnipeg and call the top 6 fixed. Net 600K cap hit.
See if we can shed a Contract (Sobotka/Scandella/Hunwick?) and then land Jake Gardner to complete Blue line
We would be Light Years better than last year
