How does it work? - Zezel
maybe he's not capable of playing better, and sometimes it's just not all in your own hands. |

By the way, what is up with Zaitsev where he demands a trade that sees him go from a top contender in Toronto to an endless poop rain in Ottawa? - Zezel
He probably wants to just punch the clock and collect that contract for the next 5 years. Easier to avoid a buyout when you're not under much scrutiny. Probably knows he'll never see money like that again. Thanks Lou. |

Yeah I'm just taking a shot at him because demanding a trade when he wasn't playing well seems lame. I don't know what the deal is with him, but he got himself moved from a good team to a bad and dysfunctional one, it's different anyway. |

This way he doesn't have to play in the playoffs for five years, and the games will be pretty meaningless by November. The home games will be nice and quiet, except when the Leafs score. |

Seems like he didn't like babcock
I wonder how he will like melnyk coming to the locker room post game to rip on the team. |

He got what he deserved. While it was his 'right' to demand a trade, he couldn't control where he went. |

It's weird because I remember Babcock praising him to the press. Who knows. (frank) him anyway. |

On the other hand, I'm in the camp that says Kadri had to go. One brain fart was forgivable, two was not. - TrashPanda
I was never on the side of trade Kadri because he lost his mind for a few seconds. Good hockey trade sure... mainly because he was a luxury the Leafers could afford to move.
Although I personally would rather have moved Nylander. |

You forgot the- "He was always going to Torontoe and the Leafs still had to give him $11M".

Nylander didn't cost the Leafs the playoffs - twice. |

It's hard to feel bad for the guy for falling down the depth chart because he wasn't as good as his teammates on our rather questionable defense. It's also hard to feel bad for him that he was given a fairly hefty contract for a lot of years and couldn't live up to it.
Maybe he tried his best and just wasn't good enough and took flack for it. Poor guy. Honestly, I can see why maybe he wanted out, especially if he had issues with the coach or teammates (dunno if he actually did).
I do feel a slight bit bad for him that of all teams to get traded to, they sent him to Ottawa. |

Nylanders rookie season tied kadris career high in pts and he's 6 years younger. |

I liked Kadri and his contract, but he wasn't really playing to his full potential on the third line and after (frank)ing up twice in a row in the playoffs, I can understand that management might've been pissed and didn't trust him anymore.
When all is said and done, I'm a bit sad to see him go, but it was a solid trade that brought in some good pieces for the team. If we can resign Barrie (to a manageable deal), that trade's a definite win for the Leafs. |

You clearly don't know how this works. Willy is greedy, soft as slime, and doesn't do enough in the playoffs. If you defend him, you're just a Nylander fan girl.
It's only Marner that we're supposed to defend to the death.
Not that I'm seriously on the "let's hate Marner" bandwagon either. I think he gets signed at some point and we all pretend this Marner crap fest never happend. |

he'll probably get quality minutes in ottawa now or at least a chance at more responsibility considering the size of his contract. |

the leafs were a better team when nylander held out for half a season, didn't seem to be quite as good when he came back and that carried on into the playoffs. |

Yeah, he might get a chance for redemption there. Then again, considering the rest of the team there, he might look worse than Ceci did while he was there. And then he'll get to enjoy the circus show of looking like a bad player on a long, fairly big contract, playing on a tire fire Sens team. So once again, I feel a bit bad he got traded to there. |

It's not smart to judge a player off of half a season. Especially when it was a far worse half season than the previous couple seasons they played. As long as he gets top 6 minutes next season I expect he'll at least bounce back to a 60 point player, maybe even more. |

Playing with Matthews a full season will benefit both IMO. They traded the right guy. The replacement is younger, bigger, was better at faceoffs last year and has to be smarter. Getting Barrie for $2.75 for a season is awesome. If he sticks even better.
