I wouldn't really call us top heavy: that cash is spread around our top 6 evenly, exactly as it should be.

It's when you get into multiple 5-6M players on the 3rd line is where you get into trouble and even more so, multiple 2.5-3M players on the 4th line.

- gravyface

Well by top heavy I mean they have (or will have 4 players makes 40 mil) or 50% of the cap

some would say the Pens were a team that was close to that and won cups.

I must agree with the bird on this one.

Spatso has no intention of talking hockey, he just wants to see the Leafs burn.

- Scabeh

i actually think he does want to talk hockey, he is just very very bad at it.

Well when someone has a negative narrative towards your team 100% of the time, I'd say the conversation simply cannot be an enjoyable one.

I mean, I get it, I want the Leafs to fail as well but I can admit it when they're doing something right or good.

Yeah, and we are forward-heavy for sure compared to our backend, cap-wise.

It's nice that he's a RHD.

But is he an upgrade over Gardiner? I'd say only slightly.... and might leave in a year.

But Kerfoot is a significant downgrade on Kadri.

Of course vs the Bruins in the playoffs it's a major upgrade on both fronts.

You guys see Don Cherry call out Simmons last night about the contract? Rogers told him after the playoffs that he's back next season.

(frank)ing Simmons; guy just churns out the poop for clicks.

- gravyface

Yeah, I saw that. Pretty hilarious. Simmons is the worst.

I do think Barrie is an upgrade on Gardiner. Not bigly, but an upgrade nonetheless. I also like it cap wise with him clocking in around 4M less than what Gardiner would probably cost. Allows them to keep the band together, for the most part. I do think Kerfoot is a downgrade at 3C, but I'd like to think Matthews finally gets more TOI to help mitigate that.

I think those that want to critique the trade compare him to "bad Gardiner". Most of the unbiased comps I've seen compare him favourably with Rielly.

I've probably seen him play a few minutes but I couldn't tell you anything other than what I've read. But, compared to last year at training camp the top 4 seems better on paper.

Rielly-Hainsey
Gardiner-Zaitsev

Rielly-Ceci?
Muzzin-Barrie

Kadri to Kerfoot is the price you pay to go from Hainsey to Barrie at 1/2 price.

He is an unmitigated disaster.

He was on the Fan590 on some Sunday morning show or something. Believe it or not, he sounded like even MORE of a douchebag than you would expect.

Someone needs to Masvidal him and put us all out of our misery.

- Aetherial

That knockout was (frank)ing insane.

I commented about it right when it happened, but no one responded. I'm glad someone else saw that. I was in shock when I watched it.

Maybe some time with Muzzin will turn him into a player.

People were genuinely surprised by Zaitsev's play alongside Muzz

Perhaps.

If anything I'd pencil a young guy over him in the top 4.

The less icetime he gets, the more chances Ceci has of being effective imo.

Once Dermott gets healthy, Ceci moves down.

Or at least that's what should happen. Babcock might just keep him where he is.

Nylander didn't cost the Leafs the playoffs - twice.

No that was the Bruins
