Maybe Ceci had to reject his qualifying offer first before Dubas could offer him anything else? - Scabeh
Nope.
In fact, his qualifying offer was$4.3 million.
He signed for $4.5 million.
Quit trying to defend Dubas, jerk. |

I agree.
Only so much icetime can be given per game.... and you want as much of Matthews and Tavares as possible. - Scabeh
but when Glassthews goes down with another shoulder injury, You have Kerfoot instead of Kadri taking over. |

He may be.
But leafs fnas have seen decaded of hot garbage.
We're use to it - Fakepartofme
Let me go one step further:
Leafs fans always want one forward and one defenseman as hot garbage. We want to be able to yell at someone.
And we really want a good goalie, but we are surprisingly OK having a poop one.

Yeah, but when Kadri gets suspended in the playoffs, who does Colorado have to take over the #2 spot? |

Apparently Smith was hot for the Sens to take him. Not sure what lies behind that move. - spatso
A bad defenseman on a terrible contract. Enjoy |

I don't think that's being fair to Kadri.
He'll have a bigger role with the Avs and I expect his production to rise from last season where he played behind 2 top centres.
And I'm saying that hating his stupid face.
I guess we'll see. - Scabeh
Well in his career Kadri has been about a 50 point player.
so i would expect a decline coming, but yes he could see a bump if he gets bigger minutes and PP time |

I still cannot understand why they didn't put $4 million in signing bonus.
Yeah, sure, maybe he was misused in Ottawa. Maybe he can actually play. Maybe there's a fancy graph that Dubas has that proves he can make meaningful contributions to the Leafs this year.
But if that graph is wrong, wouldn't it be nice to have the insurance of knowing you can flip him to another team, knowing the other team would only have to pay $500,000 in salary?
Dubas franked up big time on this one. - Atomic Wedgie
Well if and/when the time comes.. it would be around the TDL and wouldnt owe a lot at that point, I doubt it would deter many team..if they were interested in him in the first place |

Why would any team be interested in him?
There's only two paths forward here:
- he's not as bad as he was in Ottawa, so we keep him, because we really need RHD
- he's just as bad or worse than he was in Ottawa, in which case we have to pay somebody to take him off our hands.
If the latter one proves to be true, it's much easier to move him in November if he's only owed $450,000. |

Do you know/has it been reported what the offer was? |

Spezza will play a bigger role than expected. Dubas should package up Marincrap and Kerplunk for a Dman. |

if he sucks and cant trade him you can sit him or demote and let his contract expire.
but bad players get moved all the time, hell some teams sign replacement level Tyler myers for 30 mil |

I'm perfectly happy to wait to see him play a few games in a Leaf uniform before I make any rash judgements. |
