Jones untouchable? Columbus just lost their best player and also #1 goalie. Have a look at who will be in net for them this season! When Jones is a UFA in 3 years, Columbus might be competetive again. Sure to be a yard sale on the horizon - not the most solid organization to start with.

3 years is a long time.

I doubt Marner signs in CBJ for anything over 3 years...Keep the cheap contract in Jones.

I think Marner is better than Nylander...but it is much closer than people think.

I think Nylander can be even better than Mitch on the PP. He can pass with precision but also has a lethal shot. I think that is why Marner's PP numbers went down...teams took away the pass to let him shoot.

But Willie playing with the 5v5 beast himself in AM and not playing with the scrubs on the 2nd PP unit I think Nylander finishes within 5-10 points of Marner this year.

But I agree people are getting pissed at him...he doesn't deserve that...but I don't think people are wrong in the slightest by saying they would drop him in a heart beat if he sticks on 11 million.

It will be amazing if Willy hits the ground running this season. If AM and Willy become a duo again and Snake and MM do their thing that is a wrecking crew.

I think he will

He is a very talented player and AM/Nylander are a good fit. They are 5v5 beasts.

It was frustrating to watch an already struggling player being put with a struggling offensive player in Kadri and the offensive dynamos in Ennis on the PP.

Moral of the story...if you think Willy is overpaid at 7 million you are in for a world of hurt with Marner at 11 million

Marner would be a fool to sign a contract with a term less than 5 years.

Either:

10.5M x 5 years + goodbye who?

OR

11.6M x 7 years + goodbye Nylander?

Kinda funny how apparently JT talked to Matthews/Marner about their future with the team.

Marner to JT

"I want to be a Leaf for a long time and I would love to play next to you"

1 year later

*Marner signs offer sheet with JT's former team"

I know it is a business but there's gotta be some sort of respect and honesty here.

It's a very good thing Marner isn't eligible for arbitration now. A good thing for Marner that is.

Lets say Marner decides to hold out...

Is there a chance that, in November, some team could offersheet him at an AAV id like 10,500,000 (2 1sts, 2nd, third) BUT, pay a lot in bonuses and have his cap hit this year be something the Leafs could not match?

I guess the problem in that scenario would be what other team has that space (Colorado) and would that be enough AAV to beat any offer by the Leafs.

It starts to make me wonder if Dubas will trade him.

Apparently, not only is Marner better than Nylander, he and his agent are informing the world that he is better than Matthews and Taveres...despite only having 5 career playoff goals. Think about that. The absurdity of giving 11.5 or 12.5 million a season to a 5"11 winger with 5 career playoff goals??? And oh yes, squandering 4 first round picks for the privilege.

You're possibly pushing it a bit...

however; Willie's skating is for sure no less than poetry in motion. Not quite Bure, but still elite+.

We should trade Marner and then give him an offer sheet before he signs with his new team.

I really find it unfathomable that in the end Marner will force the Leafs to move him. Because he's a Leafs fan himself playing for the most promising iteration of the club in fifty years, and the endorsement money possibilities here surely must make up the difference and then some even if he were paid more elsewhere.

Especially if the Leafs go on a long run and/or win the Cup. I mean he's got to be good for at the very least a couple million a year in sponsorship, just to start.

If you had to trade someone you would trade Johnsson before Nylander.
