I hope he gets offer sheeted, not matched, or traded, and then Toronto has that magical run next season and he gets to watch it after having a bad year.
Sorry, but Nylander just used up all of Leafs nations patience last season with the holdout, then waiting until the Worlds to do anything. I definitely think Willy can rebound, but I do hate seeing my team held hostage like this by a guy who is flirting with McDavid money and has less 100 point seasons and Harts... |

Kinda funny how apparently JT talked to Matthews/Marner about their future with the team.
Marner to JT
"I want to be a Leaf for a long time and I would love to play next to you"
1 year later
*Marner signs offer sheet with JT's former team"
I know it is a business but there's gotta be some sort of respect and honesty here. - Santo_44
This only becomes a relevant talking point if Marner actually signs an offer sheet.
As of right now, there is no indication that he doesnt want to be a leaf for a long time.

You're possibly pushing it a bit...
however; Willie's skating is for sure no less than poetry in motion. Not quite Bure, but still elite+. - 21peter
Willie had a poop season...I get why someone would disagree with me
But Willie's passing is near elite and he has a lethal shot.
Finally having a RHD is going to shake things up....I hope the Athletic comes up with an actual in depth analysis of what Barrie could do to the Leafs PP....but from me looking up some youtube videos of the Avs PP Barrie seems to love the one timer from the center or right side wall. Something we have never seeon on this Leafs pp. They are going to have to find a way to utilize that and I don't think the usual Marner/Nylander setup on that RS is going to do it.
I expect this years PP to be different and I think Willie will benefit from that. |

I would love to see some more shots from the D to distract from the seam plays.
Also move let Matthews and Marner move around. I would let then do whatever they feel like on the PP lol. |

Apparently, not only is Marner better than Nylander, he and his agent are informing the world that he is better than Matthews and Taveres...despite only having 5 career playoff goals. Think about that. The absurdity of giving 11.5 or 12.5 million a season to a 5"11 winger with 5 career playoff goals??? And oh yes, squandering 4 first round picks for the privilege. - Kayakjack
Oh yeah?
Do you have proof of any of this? Or are you just towing the Derp line? |

Marner would be a fool to sign a contract with a term less than 5 years.
Either:
10.5M x 5 years + goodbye who?
OR
11.6M x 7 years + goodbye Nylander? - RedRevenge
10.5M x 5 years = can be done right now, with Horton on LTIR and a 21 man roster
11.6 M x 7 years = goodbye Marner |

Rielly is great but I would not be surprised to see Barrie take the number 1 PP. having that one timer threat from the point takes some pressure of Matthews and Marner/Nylander. |

That’s because that’s what smart NHL players are doing. That’s the way pro sports in NA is trending. Makes more sense to sign short term deals and bet on yourself then be a complete (frank)ing idiot like MacKinnon or Kucherov. It’s not Mitch’s fault those guys hired poopty agents. Your mad cuz Dubas (frank)ed up with Nylander and now it’s difficult to sign Mitch. |

If you take WNs average he shoots at about 10%. If we take his biggest shooting year it was 205. He's a 20 goal scorer at this point, nothing more. If we take his highest percentage x his highest shot total he's scoring 28 - max.
Mitch has already scored 26 remaining right around his average %, only getting more ice time. Mitch has eclipsed 20 twice and was the third best setup man at forward in the league last year. He was 3rd in the league in PK efficiency last year among forwards.
Comparing Nylander to Mich is going way off the plantation. |

What facts have been confirmed regarding the Marner saga?
- 10 x 6 confirmed to be offered by Leafs?
- 12.5 offer sheet from Islanders? |

Yup. used to be way too risky with the hits and fights and general nastiness of the past. Now not so much. |
