Yes!! I’m a Canadian citizen living in a US state that currently has a 5.5% rate rather than the 13% rate Ontario carries. Some states have zero. - Snots33_77
I believe only 1 where the NHL is played or none according this chart.
Not necessarily referring to you personally, just the amount of tax talk that goes on in here regularly. - RickJames77
Understood. And I appreciate the breakdowns. I’m not a troll.
I just hear the tax talk like everyone else and wanted to get to the bottom of it. It’s the go-to excuse for my team and why player X or Y won’t sign there.
Dang. I mean, I agree for the most part. Interesting to see another teams fans outlook, especially one that has gone through a similar situation.
Just a side note. JT got 11 million having never broke 90 points. Never. He scored 11 more even strength goals than he ever has playing with Marner. He also recorded his highest plus minus by a country mile.
Stamkos scored 60 in his 4th year. Matthews on his ELC had a higher goals/game and points/game than Stamkos did. That’s without having a HOFer on his wing (St. Louis). - Steven_Seagull
Sure? ...Matthews successfully compared himself to Malkin and got that kind of cap %. My point was/is that none of Marner, Rantanen, et al. compare to Stamkos and therefore none of them should get 9.5+ on a 5 yr deal.
Gotta disagree with the idea that Aho signed a 'team friendly' deal. 8.5 x 5 was really good for Aho. Probably a really fair deal for both sides. You take all the 5 yr deals signed by elite young 21/22 yr olds coming off their ELC's and Aho's number puts him more than Perry/Getzlaf and slightly less than Kane/Toews. The only 5 yr deals with a higher cap value were given to Crosby, Malkin, Matthews and Stamkos. It's a really good number.
Converting those 5 yr deals to today's numbers ...
IMO, none of these guys hit Stamkos level. I think he bagged 60 goals at age 21. So any of them signing 5 yr deals should be at 9 or under. I highly doubt any of them get over 9.5 on a 5 yr deal unless some crazy GM decides he's desperate and tosses an OS out there. - The Law
I have a spreadsheet I made where I went through and looked at all the players who signed 5 or 6 year deals out of their ELC. A lot of high end picks do it, so the Matthews and Marner situation isn't a new thing.
I looked at the % of cap and their points/PPG, goals and 5v5 goals.
Coming out of their first 3 years, only Crosby and Malkin had more 5v5 points than Matthews, and only Malkin and Stamkos had more goals (Stamkos 119, Malkin 115, Matthews 111). 5v5 goals Matthews is way ahead, he has 86 second is Bobby Ryan with 72. Malkin had 68, Stamkos 69.
Ovechkin is way ahead of all of them though, but he signed a 13 year deal, he had 163 goals and 104 5v5.
Plus minus is a tricky stat. Gardiner/hainsey come to mind.
I do agree though. Mitch was not riding JTs coat tails by any stretch. If I remember correctly marner had something like 17 impact apples on JTs first 20 goals.
Makes me wonder if Matthews could put up 60 if he had a playmaker like that getting him the puck
