Is buying out okposo a move Buffalo would consider, would it be worth it cap-wise for them long term?
If Buffalo has a player file for arbitration, I think it opens up a second buy-out window. I guess it's in case a team has to make room to meet an arbitration award. Is this accurate? If so, would they even consider buying Okposo out now?

Buyouts Outside of the Regular Period
Clubs whom have 1 or more arbitration filings may be permitted to perform a buyout outside of the regular window. This gives teams another opportunity to become cap compliant following an arbitration case.
Clubs are permitted to perform a buyout outside the regular period during the 48 hour period beginning on the third day after the final of [CBA 13(c)ii]:
Settlement of the Club's final arbitration case, or
Receipt of the Club's last arbitration award
Requirements:
A buyout can only be performed on a player who was on the clubs reserve list at 3:00pm on the most recent trade deadline
The player must have a cap hit of at least $3,455,438 for the 2019 offseason
There is an exception to this buyout period (CBA Reference: Section 11.18; 12.3) if the arbitation was Club-elected (as opposed to player-elected) and the player did not receive a qualifying offer. In this case, a minimum of two arbitration cases are necessary to trigger the buy-out period outside the regular window.
The number of arbitration filings required to open the buy-out window outside the regular period are as follows:

While it's possible, as homie listed, they would have just used the normal window if they wanted to do it.
Actually statistically they had the same points last year.
Erod is almost 26 , how much growth is there? Weren't you saying eichels already on the decline at 22?
Dude has 21 career goals at almost 26 years old. Hes not a kid. Like the nylander defenders play.
Okposo has 187 carrer goals and 300 assists and just turned 31.
Bet erod doesn't make that up over the next 5 years - Boss34
I don't understand why any of this is happening.
One plays all 3 positions under $1m, plus PK
One plays RW and PP for $6m
If you want to say Pominville is more useful than Okposo, I get that, but saying Okposo is more valuable than a 3rd/4th liner making a 10th of his salary implicates Okposo more than it vindicates him

It's tough criticizing ERod on any Sabre forum. He's a saint. He's about to turn 26 and regressed a bit last year, despite getting 2nd line minutes. Certainly a useful bottom 6 guy, but he was overused last year.

Actually I am one of the more positive posters on this blog and I support the moves that Botts has done so far this summer. But the fact is that we are not in balance. We do have lots of depth at LW and RD - and very little at centre and right wing. Just the facts. Not trying to be a Debby Downer.

Good post.you will know when the Sabres are good, when Erod is on the 4th.
He isn't bad by any means, but arguing of which 4th liner is better is....a waste of energy.

True, that window closed June 30, well after any real chance to move him, which would've been around the draft. Unless they've recently changed their thinking, he'll be there at least one more season. Maybe his play will improve if fully healthy this year.
At least he adds Veteran Leadership...

Fact. Great post.
That said, please learn to bow to the self appointed monitors.

You just can't take that hit for 8 years. If you really have to, you bury him. I'm not optimistic for any kind of rebound, but you have to bring him back hope for it.

they' ain't buying out Okposo and it doesn't look as if they'll be able to trade him...don't see why any energy is wasted on him right now cause he ain't goin anywhere...not even to the ahl - Michael Pachla
You don't think they would place him in the AHL if it meant the team got better? Botts's sole reason for existence is to put the best possible product on the ice for the Sabre fans. That's it. If Lazar, Ruistolanen or whomever is better than Okposo, then Okposo should be in Rochester.

He's a bottom-6 guy, and no one's calling him a saint. He's fun to watch.
As for the 2nd line minutes, he played a minute more per game than Larsson and doubled his production.

That's why I asked if it was even worth it, and I thought he "only" had three years left.

Wouldn't it be better time spent arguing whose contract was worse between Moulson and Okposo than discussing who is more valuable between ERod and Okposo?

I like Erod, and as a numbers guy I think he’s definitely useful at his salary and in the bottom 6.
But man some people think he’s like a super good player and it’s kinda weird.
And I don’t mean Jcrag I mean some Sabres twitter people
People were literally turning down Hoffman if Erod is included. Hoffman might score more in 1 year than Erod does in 3

Not directed at you personally, so please don't take it that way.
I'm just sick of hearing about veteran leadership over the past 4 years as the team continues to be a bottom finisher.
ROR, Gionta, Pommer, Scandella, Okposo, Burgland, and the list of several more...been about as useless as tits on a bull.
F them all, they came here to wind down their career in a cushy, no pop pressure environment while the team played well enough to finish dead last multiple times.
What leadership did they provide really?
Bunch of crap IMO

I mean the right answer is Larsson should be in Sweden and Erod should be a spark plug on the 4th line. That being we actually have a good hockey team.

I'm not calling you out on it. Other people and other sites are far worse. He's a fun player to watch, but looks more productive than he is. People have consistently said he deserves an opportunity on the top line, there's a BU-connection that's never occurred to the coaching staff, etc.
He was 4th among regular forwards in TOI. That's too much. Larsson played way too much as well. It's why they had the worst middle 6 in hockey.
