Debatable. Barrie and Gardiner to me seems like a lateral. I get Barrie produces but you really think the Avs trade Barrie and retain cap on him if he was such a good Dman? The D looks the same to me. Maybe I am wrong about him, time will tell. Cant say I have seen him play too often, usually in bed when Western teams play.

Third line also looks downgraded. Spezza is done. Kadri is a way better C than Spezza is now, when he isnt suspended of course. Personally I would slot AJ ahead of him.

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Actually Barry being traded had more to do with making room for Makar and adding a proven centre to a team that had an over reliance on one line. So yes, you are wrong.

Obviously they are coming today.

But that's not just what I'm worried about.

What about the offer sheets for Leafs players that are coming next summer?!?!?!?!

My God, does it ever end!?!?!?!?

Who is saying blow it up? I said there is going to be a cap crunch and it will be a tight fit. I am not saying it cant be done but the defense is likely going to take a hit.
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Every team, every year has a cap crunch and a tight fit (except Arizona, of course).

Yet I don't see you going on the Boston thread, or the Tampa Bay thread, or the Nashville thread, or the Las Vegas thread, or the San Jose thread, or the Rangers thread, or the Pittsburgh thread, or the Canucks thread, or the Islanders thread, or the Habs thread, or the Wild thread and spread your passive-aggressive doomsday scenarios.

I wonder why that is?

Hmmmmmmm...

Isn't it time to get over your weird hatred of Toronto?

Marner had 1 more point than Nylander.

- Steven_Seagull

Yup.
But blocked shots, played D and has a justin beiber'ish/millennial arm tattoo.

So...remove 3 laughing emojis.

why are you speaking about them being 'gym rats'?
i'm speaking about in-game situations.
willie floats and doesn't want to give it all to win the puck, get the goal, make the assist etc.
the preparation should be the standard. not sure why you're applauding players for preparing well.
the point is that nylander is not competing as hard as others during games.

- MaximusAurelius

Your point is bullsh!t. Willie has scored (even with last years totals) at a pace of .6778 points per game. Kucherov scored over his first three years on a more offensive team at a pace of .7062 Why are you making out like your opinion which if far from the consensus on this blog to be fact?

no, no... you don't get off that lightly.

you must also consider the emotional impact if the Leafs do receive dozens of offer sheets for Marner...
and how "retribution" will be handled / managed.. whether the retribution will "fit within the CAP"...

its not as simply as you want it to be...

just look at the Canes.. .who organization is now obviously in complete disarray... and the Habs... who can't figure out if they were played by the players agent or not (I truly hope that the Habs mgmt team doesn't spend too much time opining on whether they played the Canes or the agent for Aho played them like a piano)... come on guys, even with potential linguistic differences - it ain't that complicated

The Avs have two young D that should make the roster next year; we probably have the same in Lillybust and Sandin the year after, so the timing makes sense for both teams.

Our top 4 now features D playing on their strong sides; that's an upgrade in and of itself, regardless of personnel change on an individual vs. individual basis.

Kadri's not a good fit as a 3C (he's better as a 2C) and is turning 29 in October; the move made sense on a few levels.

Spezza is fine as a 4C. He was never fast to begin with, but that's not his game. He's a big body vet that can help out PP2 and win draws, even on the PK in a faceoff-and-out scenario. We didn't have a 4C who could win draws before, not since Boyle and Spezza's better.

It was a lot easier to waste time on the internet in 1995.

You had to plug your modem into the phone line.

Then you had to wait for the page to load...

Significantly so, although Leafs should add one experienced d-man not named Marincin.

The avs have a replacement for barrie, so ya.
Kerfoot will be the 3rd line c.
Spezza will be 4th and some important face offs
We'll see.

Spezza doesn't replace Kadri - he replaces Gauthier.

Kerfoot replaces Kadri.

Odd that he conveniently forgot that Kerfoot was part of the trade.

Very, very odd.

Just getting McFarland running the PP instead of DJ Smith will be an improvement. How the Leafs PP faded after an amazing first month was surprising.

And one other random thought for the haterz:

- I don't want to sign Muzzin next year.

He'll be 31 - and expect a $7 million or more contract with plenty of term. Let other teams reward him for past performance. That one has "huge mistake in the making" written all over it.

i agree 100%
he might have a really good season coming season, but rielly and dermott will be your top lhd men after this season.
after that, sandin might be in the lineup as a lhd (we'll see how he'll develop).

I fear marner signs for 5 years and then we get to look forward to everyone saying they’ll walk in 5 years.

We’ll have 5 years of that.
