The Calgary deal would have been better fore Toronto... Jankowski only getting better and better.. guys a big body with skills... Would come in handy against heavy teams - kaptaan
Not sure if the deal was better, only plus would have been Brodie being easier to extend. Barrie wanting 8 x 8 on his next deal means he is one and done in Toronto.
At that point you've traded Kadri for kerfoot. And that's a poop deal. |

Rasmus Sandin. - mykokes
He's a reason why when people talk about the D I just shake my head. These people conveniently forget there's a farm system and at some point you need to give them a real chance. If Muzzin walks, who cares? The team isn't built on free agents and trades. |

Would be nice if they managed those assets instead of letting them walk for nothing year after year. Because that eventually equals a depleted farm system. |

That's a pretty big what if. At that point we have 3 good centres and massive holes on the blueline. Also known as the same situation they were in to begin with. |

He’s pricing himself out of Toronto. He’ll walk as a FA so they might as well trade his ass before he demands too much. Greedy Vlad |

Let's at least see how this year goes before assuming anything. Especially when it comes to Barrie and a full season of muzzin. And if it makes you feel better about assett management....we got Tavares and all it cost was cap. |

What if Reilly scores 20 goals to lead all dmen, and 70 points, oh wait he did that. And all you kept saying was trade him for a real top pairing dman. Just saying, who knows how this lineup shakes out ....or how the 45 point player in colorado mght fit or luck into goals and points in this lineup.
That said, he might be the next Kris versteeg too. Training camp is still like 2 months away...lets not laugh at other posters for asking what ifs. |

I like flexibility. Remember when we locked up Zaitsev long-term after a really good first year? How'd that work out? |

This just shows how people overrate size. Dude sucks. 37 points career high. |

i say trade matthews marner and nylander and just be done with them all. - Bob_Zuruncle

Sucks in what way? Definitely doesn't suck more in his own zone. Giordano has labeled him the smartest player he's ever played with.
Considering the Leafs already have a guy who can put up points, maybe the guy beside him was best suited to be like TJ Brodie.
Also, Dubas explored acquiring Brodie first, so maybe that was his plan A for a reason. |

Or how Leafs fans overrate points from a defenseman. |

I mentioned Z getting traded a few months ago and he responded to me with the laughing face.
I asked him to bet me and he went silent. Just smile and nod with that one.

TJ Brodie is a left handed shot. He's not a fit at all. This team is set on the left side, it's the right we were horrible. |

I want players who we can fit under the cap and will play for the team. Trading appealing players on great contracts for 1 season isn't a good strategy.
That said, I do like Tyson Barrie, and like the other guy said, it's not really reasonable to throw stones at a season that hasn't started yet.
I hope dubas plays it well. Because it took what felt like 20 years to put a blueline together that's even this component. If it's blown apart after 1 season and we have nothing to show for it, that would suck. |

Plays the right side and plays it well so it shouldn't matter that much.
Should actually be a target as a UFA if he makes it because he'll be a lot cheaper than the offensive defenseman that can't play in their own zone. |

Because you are doing what everybody says but is wrong. He isn't a lock to leave at all! They have the $ to sign him.
They also got a younger, cheaper and a player who was close to Kadri last season with less TO in Kerfoot.
It's ridiculous. People are already saying goodbye to Barrie before he plays a game. |
