1) The Cap barely went up this year. You cant rely on that
2) Tyler Myers is getting 6 Mill per season as a 2nd pair Dmen. That is the market price now. Who do you realistically think you are getting to replace Muzzin and Ceci and not downgrade the D?
3) Dermott is going to want a hefty raise as well.
4) Leafs have 26 mill in cap space next year WITHOUT factoring in Marner. In reality, if he gets 10 mill.
26 mill - 10 mill = 16 mill
Horton is taken off the books 16 + 5.3 = 21.3
Barrie gets 8 Mill 21.3 - 8 = 13.3
You now have 13 mill to split between 2 Top 4 Dmen, 2 Bottom pair Dmen, A backup goalie, 2 4th line forwards and a reserve forward and D.
5) Yes the cap COULD go up but as the cap goes up so do contract prices. Jake Muzzin at 4 mill is a steal right now. Look at the deals signed by Crosby compared to guys now. You got a guy like Panarin making 12+ million. Thats 3 mill more than Crosby and Panarin is a top player but he is not in the same league as guys like Crosby and Ovechkin. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
My groin is all tingly from this.

you are right - Dubas is 'just ok'.
I don't think 'just ok' is good enough for the Leafs though.
They need to go for one of the best.
What Dubas is really good at is communicating though - that's why a lot of people like him that much; he's a good interviewee and expresses himself nicely. People confuse message with content, and think he's a 'genius'. - MaximusAurelius

why don't you go and wait for 4 hrs to get some 18year old's authograph?

I don't have an opinion?
When someone goes in circles and makes a fool of themselves, yeah you laugh. What other choice do you have. Often think your posts are shtick and you're actually looking for a laugh.
What the (frank) are you even talking about here? When has that ever happened? Sounds like jealousy... |

Dubas' long term success will be measured by his bold stroke in signing of Tavares. This will be the critical year. The second guessers will start chattering if the defence comes up short again and the Leafs struggle in their own end. I expect for the Leafs to start the season strong. But, let's see what comes in the second half of the season and in the playoffs.
Almost certain the Leafs will face Tampa or Boston in the first round of playoffs. Does anybody expect outcomes to be any different based on the look of the Leafs' defensive corps? |

Can't judge dubas on Tavares, because he had nothing to do with him signing here. He was coming here no matter what.
Do we expect any difference than Tampa losing in the first round or Toronto taking a lead in game 6 when they could have eliminated Boston? |

To be fair, your 3/ 2C center was traded... And Marner isn't quite signed yet...
That being said, you are right about people who made any predictions of cap hell then not posting a mea culpa.

people think they're cap specialists - so they can actually avoid to talk which players are good and bad.. (ceci; nylander; sparks; etc. are examples - 'his contract will look great in 3 years from now!!') |

You're obsession with Nylander is just as bad.
What if he puts up 70 points this year? And next year 75? Are you still going to complain about how we haven't traded him yet? |
