golden knights were still able to select pending ufa's last time. the draft is held in june and the 2020-21 season doesnt officially end until june 30 - johnnykarate
Please learn to read. From the the link......the official NHL website....
"Seattle must choose a minimum of 20 players under contract for the 2021-22 regular season....."
Thus, the contracts are 2021-22 contracts.....NTC.......

lol I'm still trying to figure out if Nucker is actually on board with this stuff or just yanking our chains still with reverse psychology
- LordHumungous
I would've joined the Miserable Marwoods™ if Myers got 7x7, Ferland got 5.5x5 and Benn got 3x3 but Jim has surprised me with his reasonable UFA deals. I still say the Miller deal was an overpay, but I like the player a lot and he's also on a really solid contract as well.
Plus Jim let go of 2 of my most hated Canucks, Granlund and Pouliot. If he completes the trifecta with LE(even in Utica), I'll be ecstatic.
Ideally I would've loved to land Gusev and Miller from the Knights, but this is a decent consolation prize. |

You gotta just take the L on this one Johnny. He doesnt need to be protected lol - Codes1087
im holding firm. if the draft is held in june 2021, then the no move for the 2020-21 season should still be in effect until July 1
also i dont think it really matters. unless he completely catastrophically bombs i think benning protects him anyway |

The expansion draft is at the end of the 2020-21 season, so the question is, which year is in question for draft protection....is it the NMC for the 2020-21 or the NTC for 2021-22 season?
EDIT: If i read this site correctly, Ferland will not have expansion draft protection as his 2021-22 year is the year in question for the expansion draft.

That is how I read it too. So far the majority on Twitter are saying he does not need to be protected. |

yes they would have to choose a minimum of 20 players under contract from the 31 nhl teams which means they are still picking from teams under contract for 2 more weeks if they want.
from capfriendly: No Movement Clauses
Players with a “No Movement” clause that is currently in effect, and continues to be in effect at the time of the Expansion Draft, must be protected by their respective team, unless such players choose to waive their NMC, at which point the team is free to expose them.
not hating at all, i dont think it will make a difference, just was pointing out the clauses |

Benning's done well again.
Fernland is overrated as a top 6 player in some ways but excellent value and just what this team needs IMO.
Tanev deal and Tryamkin signing imminent Don.

How does that make any sense? Let me explain that statement to you.......it refers to players who are RFA's.....simple - right? |

I think a lot of people are missing the end game on the whole LE to Utica train, the cap savings means sweet fawk all in the short term - its all about him not being in a Canucks uniform/lineup until he breaks and freaks out crying home to Sweden. The termination of contract idea is a stretch for sure but that is one of the best ways to potentially achieve it. It was the same with Gagner last year, no one gave a hot fawk about the cap savings, we just never wanted to see him play again...low and behold, Feb rolled around and he wasnt our problem anymore - took awhile, but it worked - although slightly different scenario/result (Spooner = buyout) |

Buds, take the L, give up on it already. Ferland does not have to be protected. Or you can go on pretending, doesn't matter to me, enjoy your day.... |

I agree with Miagi San, NMC still in effect until July 1. But honestly, who else would the need to protect. Won’t make any difference. |

Nope - Pending UFA's were chosen last time by Vegas
It's essentially a wasted pick that opens up cap space for Vegas once the draft is over
They have a minimum salary threshold they must reach. Pending UFA's help them do this while opening up the capspace 2 weeks later
