from last blog....Ideally, Nylander finds the level of play that made him #8 overall with Wiz pegging him as "possibly the most skilled player in the draft"
Nylander -Toews-Kane
Debrincat-Strome-Kubalik
Saad-Dach-Shaw
Caggiulla-Kampf-Carpenter
Hawks have a lack of high end forward prospects beyond Dach, so its another lottery ticket that StanBo is hoping to cash in like Strome's Jackpot. |

Only reason i can see is to get some potential high end top skilled forward in the system looking beyond toews and kane. Other than that i m at a lost. |

I have a feeling we're gonna get a
Shaw-Toews-Kane
Cat-Strome-Nylander
Top 6 next year but who know's anymore lmao |

Yeah, I am not surprised, the writing was on the wall. Would have wanted more than Nylander, though. And from the outside perspective, I would rather keep and play Joker instead of Murphy/Boqvist/Mitchell also. This seems like a mistake, but there must be some kind of reasoning under it all.
Now the next question is, where does Nylander fit in the lineup? |

It screams of each players agent unhappy they arent with the big club or saw road blocks to getting there, so they worked out a trade amongst themselves |

When I heard/saw Buffalo Chicago. My first thought was AA.
Wonder if it was a larger discussion and it led to this? |

I can see Nylander on the LW with Toews and Kane as well.
He has the skill to hang with this guys (or so I've been told) and is a right-handed shot.
Kane likes to have at least one of these on his line.
I think those lines are pretty bang on with the exception of Dach. Not sure he makes it. |

so the hawks could have had byram and jokiharju, but instead have dach and nylander. isn't this the team that scored alot last year and couldn't keep the puck out of their own net? isn't this the team who has drafted nothing but 170# dmen in the last couple of years, not one of whom has been commended for their defensive ability? i know, vlasic on the second round this year. kane and toews will be using walkers by the time he is ready to play in the nhl. |

Nylander better turn his career around. Otherwise this trade will become just another reason to fire Bowman. |

It seems like the team wants to get bigger and play a stronger game on the backend under Stan/JC. Joki was kind of in the middle as he's not a super high skill guy nor is he a defensive defenseman.
Up front they are looking for young skill guys that haven't reached their potential. They hit the jackpot on Strome and could do it again here. It will be hard for a kid with that pedigree to feel like he is owed something from Toews/Kane. He just might work his ass off and become a star. If they sign Perlini, I really think it's possible that Saad could be moved.

... however... if Dach does make the lineup by chance (or at least on a trial)... then I've mentioned Shaw and Saad being perfect linemates for him before as well. |

Perlini...your uber is waiting to go to the airport. Thanks for your time |

To be fair...I remember doing a similuation of NHL 19 this past year and Nylander put up like a million points in the AHL, got called up and scored like 70 points for Buffalo, and the got paid bufu bucks so there's that!! |

How do they get Cap Compliant without trading Anisimov? The move tells me that StanBo views Maata and Murphy (and probably DeHaan too) as Long-Term parts of the defense Core. Boquist as the future #1 PP guy, and Keith still being a contributor until his contract expires. Seabrook, barring a miracle...not sure what they're gunna do with him. |
|
|
|
Maybe the Nylander acquisition puts pressure on the Perlini camp to sign a team friendly deal, or this is a sign that the Hawks value Nylander more than Perlini and he is history? |

Buffalo will take him too. What does it take?
Is he just a cap dump at this point? |

TC, to your first point, they still have a glut of young D-men coming up and signed two defensive d-men this offseason to go with two contracts with NMC’s, Murphy with a low cap hit and Gus who is a value at his cap number.
There is NO guarantee that Byram would start this year, or be better than our top prospects. I liked Joki, but he was by no means a finished product either. If this move gives them yet another high performing forward, then I’ll be happy.
I’ll agree that I would assume that they would try to move out some salary, but the summer is still young. |

TC said: Boqvist, who will be Erik Gustafsson 2.0
I say: Isn't he projected to be better than that - young enough to actually learn how to play the defensive side of the puck? |

Well the Hawks acquired Maatta and De Haan with a few hundred NHL games under their belt which should help the defense in the coming years.

You bet.
Not a fan of this move... and slightly confused so I had some initial thoughts here.
